Is there a chance...that this deal will be open to anyone and not just Disney Visa holders?
The Disney Visa Card was not a good deal compared to my other cards. Does this mean I'll never get to use a discount code again?
(Yes, I'm being slightly dramatic, but not all of us DisFanatics need or want a Disney Visa. It sucks if we can't make use of the discounts).
At this point, it is only offered to Disney Visa cardholders. A similar code may be offered to the general public. I think this may be offered to the general public if the response is less than Disney desires but probably not until near or after the deadline for Disney Visa cardholders. But if it isn't, this is the advantage of having the Disney Visa.
If you plan to carry a balance on your Visa from month to month, the card isn't a great deal. However, we treat ours like a debit card. I guess it's more like a reverse debit card. We use it for gasoline, dinning out, groceries, etc., everything we used to use our ATM Visa for and then pay the balance at the end of each month. We haven't used it to enhance our lifestyles so there hasn't been a negative effect on spending.
In the first year, we earned $500+ in Disney reward dollars. Yes we had to "run" more than $50,000 through the card, but there has been no interest or card holder's fee so it hasn't cost us anything and, unlike the ATM Visa, we have had protection that we wouldn't have had if we were using our ATM card for on-line purchases, returned purchases, or if it is lost/stolen, and we have earned enough to pay for half of our hotel stay at the AKL in June which, of course, will be charged to our Disney Visa, less the $500 in Disney rewards, and paid off when the bill comes. For us that was free money.
We had never bothered with a rewards card before because none of them offered a reward that worked for us. We don't fly as a family so FF miles didn't make since for us. We are AP holders so the discounts that were offered on the packages last year didn't make since either. We went to WDW over Thanksgiving, but the AP discount wasn't available either (the limit # of rooms ran out before I found out about them for that week) and may not be available or may not be as good as the DV code during our stay in June. This gives us an option we wouldn't otherwise have at this point.
