Within the last week I have received my new Canon Rebel xti (not kit) but ordered two lenses. The 85mm f/1.8 usm and the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS usm. I have a feeling that I had better find solice in this set up for a while or else I will be put up for adoption, without my half of our WL DVC membership if you get my drift :thumbsup2. Only problem now is by the time I get home from work it is dark out and I can't experiment with daylight photos yet. Oh well certainly worth waiting for :cool1: I have the greatest understanding DW

congrats on the setup!

get out the tripod and do some studio shots. You know... toys on the kitchen table.

Not being critical at all, but I am just wondering about your setup. Don't you think that you will ever need anything wider?

If you get LBA, there are always cheaper used options that should still fly under the DW's radar. I got a Pentax 50mm prime and a Tamron 80-210mm delivered from KEH for around $70. While they are not the greatest, the price was pretty good and they are in very good condition.

good point there, you don't have anything very wide you would have to be pretty far away from things to take pics...

what is the lowest rating you would trust from KEH...are they accurate in their assessments?

I am new to all the lenses and switching from the Sony DSC F717 so this is a MAJOR JUMP for me. Need all the help and suggestions, just don't lead me to divorce :thumbsup2 I feel I will be hitting you all up for suggestions later after the dust settles :cool1:

I try to run about 3-5 miles on lunch getting some weight down and ready for my next recruit school, where I will have to run them into the ground getting them in shape for their new career. Not an option, but wish it was. Sorry for the individual posts, but not sure how to combine all the quotes into one response. Would be glad for that input also :cool1: Thanks to everyone!

What is LBA :confused3 Sorry I never said I was literate :thumbsup2 Yes I feel I will definately need someting below 70mm , but I was trying to get what I could while the getting was good if you now what I mean :cool1: I was really basing it on WDW trips and the photos I try to capture there, mostly being more longer distance since DW does not care to be photographed.

Most people tend to find themselves using the wider focal lengths at WDW... but what's true for most is certainly not true for all. :)

LBA = Lens Buying Addiction, a nasty disease that usually strikes after the purchase of a DSLR. It is very dangerous and can lead to empty wallets, maxed-out credit cards, and testy spouses.

To avoid it, do not read any photo books or brochures. Don't look at any review web sites. And whatever else you do - do NOT hang out on photography forums on the internet! They are to LBA what a crack house is to a drug addict!

My Tamron zoom was a LN- I do not know if it was ever even used. There is not a single usage mark on it. It looks completely brand new. I believe it got the "-" b/c it did not have a case or paperwork. It is a really cheap lens, but I got it for like $26-28, so I cannot complain. The 50mm was an EX condition. Functionally, it is perfect. There is no visible wear on it, but the lettering is yellowed where it should be white. That is all I can tell wrong with it. This model has not been made for a few years, so the yellowing is hard to avoid. I think EX- is the lowest I will go. I am not brave enough to go BGN or UG.

From what I have heard, KEH is very resonable with cust. service. If you are not happy, they will take it back as long as the condition has not changed. You will likely be out the shipping, but it minimizes the risk if you are getting something on the high cost side. I think both of mine delivered was like $72. You have to constantly check with them b/c there is new inventory all the time. I was looking for about a week before the prime I got showed up. It was about $10 less than most similar models that were out there, so I jumped on it.

Hmmm, dpreview.com, steves-digicams.com, pentaxforums.com, DISboards.com and lenses waiting patiently in my Amazon shopping cart...I think it's too late for me but hopefully your post keeps others from getting LBA!!

Ain't it the truth! ;)

The OP can add to his arsenal fairly inexpensively with the "nifty fifty" (Canon 50mm f/1.8) and the 18-55 kit lens, available on eBay for less than $100 (sometimes way less).

Oh, and never, ever talk to people at WDW that carry lenses with red stripes around the front. It's too late to help them. ;)

I would definately get the "kit" lens so you have something for indoor pictures.

Or have a monopod hanging off their belt and/or a tripod on their shoulder.

:rolleyes1 Nothing to see here, move along............

BTW, speaking of the 50mm lens, any Pentax owners might be interested that Beach has the highly-sought-after 50mm 1.4 in stock for $199, with a $50 rebate expiring in early January... this is a stellar price for a stellar lens, a good bit less than I paid.

I saw this posted on pentaxforums less than a week after I ordered mine from OneCall through Amazon, $40 cheaper than what I paid. :sad2: I kicked myself for not checking beachcamera but I didn't think they were carrying the 50mm. I'd been watching bhphoto and adorama but it never crossed my mind to check beach. Oh well, l'm happy for those that are getting it at such a great price!! :)

Beach didn't list it before, at least not for a while... believe me, I checked! If I had ordered from them, I would have saved tax and shipping in addition to a cheaper price than I got by ordering from Adorama.

For a while there, even BH didn't list it until they got more in stock.

Oh well, the pain of overpaying fades over time and we're still left with a terrific lens. :thumbsup2
