Christmas in the Caribbean... As per Al Lutz article this morning is saying that this year, for the first time ever, Pirates of the Caribbean is going to go down for a Christmas REFERB!!! This is to happen after the July 4th weekend. They are going to change it into "Christmas in the Caribbean" for the Christmas season.

Al's example was the following:

"It doesn't take much to turn the pirate bedroom scene into Santa checking his list for who is naughty or nice, getting the donkey to sing Christmas carols along with the three wise men, or toss in a few wrapped presents into the treasure room. Throw up some leftover Osborne lights and voilà you have an instant Christmas themed attraction"

Also around the ride there will be hidden merchandise you need to spot. When you get into the boat you are going to be given a toy spy glass which will help you spot "Merchandise" throughout the ride, and every time you see something you want to purchase you hit the button on the spy glass and your credit card will be charged and your merchandise will be given to you after you get off the ride. Disney believes that this spy glass purchase scenario will be easier so you wont have to wait in long lineups in the stores to purchase your merchandise.

They are also saying the boats may only hold so many people, reducing capacity for better viewing of the merchandise.

Loving April 1st.

I almost fell for it, until I saw the July 4th date!

I fell for two other jokes already this morning, didn't want to fall for another!

I saw it on Facebook earlier this morning so I was waiting for it to trickle over here to the DIS!

Actually, in the past I have thought it would be an interesting idea (not necessarily good or bad) to do some sort of overlay one time on the POTC just to see what it would be like. The ride is long enough to handle an overlay of some kind. And I could even see a slogan floating around - "Ho Ho Ho Ho, a pirate's life for me..." and the skull and crossbones before the first drop would have a Santa hat on. That would be a goofy, hokey overlay. Christmas + Pirates ransacking & burning villages, looting, drinking and chasing women around to put them up for auction = not a good mix. Doesn't really go together to create a nice, cozy holiday feeling!

BUT possibly a Pirates/Halloween-type overlay could work. It seems like Halloween would be a nice holiday to provide a darker tone for a POTC overlay. I doubt they will ever do it, though.

You had me scared there for a second! :scared1: Then I realized what day it is.

(one of my favorites is already "invaded" for the holidays each year; if there were a "Pirates Before Christmas" layover, I'd just avoid NOS entirely in December )

Oh man...I panicked--my fave ride and I haven't been there in 24 years!! Phew. Not so funny...ok, kind of funny!!

:rotfl: HAHA! I know I was almost fooled this morning too, but figured there had to be a catch and I realized what day it was. Good on Al Lutz

Oh my gosh, I, like most of you almost just had a meltdown. I think I would have cried, then changed my dates from Nov to August.

Dang...you guys got me good. I remembered earlier at work that it was April Fool's and this totally caught me off guard. I'm glad PotC is staying the way it is although a holiday overlay would be kinda cool :rotfl:

Last year's got me...It was about the Lincoln rehab.
So now I look forward to them!
My favorite part of the article...finding the hidden message...
Character Redeployment Attraction Program

I totally fell for it, I'd like to say it is because I am reading it for the first time on 4/2/10 but I'm really pretty gullible. I was like, "OMG, they are going to ruin Pirates, what are they thinking?":rotfl:
