as of two nights ago the check in procedure at Ohana has been changed. The check in station has been moved to the area near the staircase. There are now also two lines..one for people with adr's and a roped off line for walk in's. We were there at 5:15 ..pretty much pre-crowds so I didn't see it in full action but it does look like it will cut out the mass mob at an already crowded area. On another note...food was GREAT and so was the service.

I can't say for certain, but that sounds like good news!

We haven't been to Ohana in over 2 years, but we plan on returning this August. I remember how crazy check-in always was, so hopefully this makes a difference!

Even if that system doesn't alleviate some of the congestion and confusion, it's good to know they're finally paying attention to the issue and trying to improve it.

That definitely seems like it will cut down on the confusion and chaos that usually surrounds the check in podium. :thumbsup2

Glad to hear you had great dining experience there the other night.

We'll be there for dinner in three weeks - can't wait!!

I also have a reservation on July 4 at 9:00!!!

This will be a first time visit to Ohana for the both of us!

Looking forward to it!!!

This is a big win...for Kona. Having the front of the restaurant open to the 'Ohana check-in chaos has always been a negative, for me.

Sounds like a positive change, hopefully this will make things run smoother. We will be there in a few days, so will shall see..:rolleyes1

Good to know- we're eating there when we go. Albeit, it's breakfast, so probably not quite the same experience...

Thanks for the update, it definitely needed something done. We have 2 dinner ADR's (my boys love it) for 'Ohana during our upcoming 10 night stay so we'll see how it works!!! :thumbsup2

For those of you going soon, if you think of it let us know how it goes. We were there the first night of the change and like I said it was 5:15 and pre-crowded.

The staircase by the restrooms, or the staircase by the elevator?

Opps...forgot about the staircase by the bathroom..it's the one by the elevators. They also have an area close to check in with a large tv for the kids now (unless it was there before and I never noticed)

A line for walk ins, they talk walk ins? I thought they were consistently booked?

Thanks - that makes sense. ...There's always been a television by the bar, but sometimes they have it "hidden." ...We've enjoyed being able to catch some "important" sporting events there....

They always seem to be..one night they were there they were saying around a three hour wait. do to a change in plans we ended up wanting t ogo there a second night. We walked in at 5:15 (the waiting area was empty) told it would be between a 1/2 and an hour but were seated in about 10 minutes. I think the walk in line is more for people wanting to check if there are any openings vs standing in a mob with people trying to check in that do have adr's
