New charge for Bell Service Delivery

Some services that Disney provides, like Magic Express or transportation to the parks, don't cost you anything. Other services they provide, like Minnievans, you are charged to use. Same with the package delivery.
The cost of everything that Disney provides is factored into their prices.
The ME transportation is part of everyone's resort room pricing structure.
We all pay our fair share whether we use it or not.
Same as the pool maintenance, electricity, water and sewage, and every other necessity for running the resorts.
They wouldn't be in business for very long if they started giving stuff away................

You shouldn't ever be allowed to use carts at any hotel with bell services, as they are the tools of their trade, it would be like going to a repair shop and asking the mechanic to use his tools for free to work on your car. So, I can understand why people would be told no in that case.
I saw guests using luggage carts multiple times a day last week at POFQ.

funny you say that. I have noticed that also. Supposedly its not allowed in vegas either..but tons do it. Not really hurting anything if one wants to take care of their own luggage.
I would never pay a fee to do something i can do myself. A lot of folks don't want help.
Its kinda a lost art...these days..people doing things for themselves.

don't forget that it's not just the $6
We tip the company who delivers our groceries to the resort ( Amazon now, Garden Grocier etc...)
Whe have to pay the $6 to have them brought to our room
Give the person who brought them to the room another tip
Add it all up and your pushing $20 to have you groceries delivered.

if the full $6 was going to the cm delivering the groceries to our room as a tip, I don't think anyone would be complaining. IMO people are just upset at the latest money grab from Disney.

I doubt this is a money grab. Probably doesn’t even cover the extra staffing needed to deal with all the extra stuff bell services deals with now. Owners lockers, amazon prime orders, other grocery deliveries, etc. they’re doing a lot more than just helping with luggage on check in and out.

I doubt this is a money grab.
I find it strange to even be talking about a money grab when it comes to a for profit company. Everything they do is a money grab and should be. If they're not charging you for something, they have some ulterior motive for doing it that in some way tracks back to earning new money or continuing to earn the money they're already earning.

What do you mean by “touted note?”
Fixed now. I had meant touted joys, in response to, "They tout the joys of... ".
I'll put it this way - tips are never expected for any delivery from a bellman, however it's no different than if you stiff a server, bartender, etc.
Bell Services (edited 4/26, was He'll Devices) at WDW is a tipped position. Persons in tipped positions are expected to be tipped.
Friends. Do yall whine when gas goes up and then threaten to not drive? 6 bucks is nothing. That's 2/3 of a decent beer on site. Carry on my wayward son (in the style of Kansas)
Well, I've known people to drive to the next state where the gas tax is lower. Never mind that that's maybe 40 miles r/t, and the difference isn't enough :)

I agree. I would definitely lower my gratuity to the person delivering to the room if I have to pay the fee.

This is where you lose me. I actually think a fee is fair, i see the grocery orders and know these take time and room for the bell services folks to manage, however I can understand if someone object to that. WHat I will never understand is punishing the person who had no say in the decision to charge a fee, and who is delivering the order nonetheless. Kind of like a shoot the messenger philosophy to me.

It's mostly DVC guests having groceries delivered, although, those staying in non-DVC resorts are starting to do grocery orders. It's wonderful to not have to pay the Disney charge for a bottle of water! But, when you do a grocery order, you pay a delivery charge, you usually include a tip, then it's another tip for Bell Services to bring the order to you. So, lets say it's about $15 or $20 just to get those groceries to your room, on top of the cost of the groceries. Now, we're expected to pay an addtl $6, that Disney gets to keep for the most part. The vast majority of people are going to believe that this $6 is going to Bell Services. I have to wonder if Disney has figured out yet another way to get more of our money....if making a grocery order with Dizzy Dolphin, Walmart, etc., more and more expensive due to addtl fees, might guests just say never mind, I'll just get what I need from the resort shop?? I've done a cost comparison between a delivery service vs using the resort shop (where there is DVC). Yes, Disney foodstuffs are a bit more expensive, but now, when you add up all the addtl fees with a delivery, it makes sense to get what you need at the resort shop. Unless you need a ton of stuff.

I think it is the "ton of stuff" that is putting bell Services over the edge in regards to storage and delivery. I have read a lot more posts concerning grocery delivery lately, and many of the folks ousting are not staying in DVC villas. One poster was asking about storage options to use in the room for a week's worth of groceries. Multiple her situation by how many others, and the logistics for bell services are magnified a lot.

If all this was for Disney was another way to make money they would not allow grocery delivery to their non DVC resorts at all, and suggest to their guests that if you want to bring groceries, you need to figure that out on your own.
I thnk the fee imposed in a small fraction of what the resort has absorbed in the past and is used to mitigate the costs they incur as this practice seems to be increasing as guests continue to look for ways to mitigate the cost of food in WDW.

This is very true. The delivery services such as Garden Grocer have a significant up charge. On my last trip I did the math and for the few items I needed, the gift shop was cheaper. Add in the six dollar delivery fee, and the resort gift shop looks even better. Doesn’t work for my long trips where I have $600 in groceries coming. The wording has been ambiguous—some say the charge is for holding and delivery. Others say it’s just the delivery. If it’s just a six dollar fee for delivery, I’ll round up my family and we will bring the stuff to our room on our own. People have said, six dollars, get over it, no big deal, but this fee angers me. I will go to extraordinary lengths to avoid it.

I don't think it is a money grab as much as it is Disney trying to deter people from ordering things. More focus on people and their bags and less time spent running to rooms with grocery deliveries.

I know at CSR a few years ago when I request my groceries be brought to my room they told me it would be a while, as their first priority was to deliver luggage. It took them until around 9 am ( I checked in after Midnight) to get my groceries delivered.

Maybe I over tip, but a few years ago I used WEGOSHOP (no issues with them), but we paid about $150 in real grocery prices, then the shopping fee, then shopper tip, then bell service to deliver. I think it was about an added $70 in fees/tip to the $150 cost.

When it's just DH and I, we just grab a few things from gift shop or perhaps a few things from amazon prime now, just meeting the person and skipping the bell service tipping.

If you have a case of water delivered, maybe that is to save money because you can purchase that in the gift shop. But people with food allergies/sensitivities or other issues may need food items which are not sold on-site.

I've also done the cost comparison, and for many things once you factor in delivery fees and minimum orders, and now this new fee, you are correct that there isn't a cost savings to purchasing from offiste. Unless you need more things than what Disney offers [their selection is extremely limited] or you need different things -- in our case due to multiple food allergies many of the products they have are just not suitable/safe so if we e.g. want bread we have no choice but to get it from offsite. Many food allergy families do grocery orders so they have some safe foods, even if it is just some snacks.

Exactly. Very little of the food sold in the gift shops is safe for my family's allergies, so we do an order from offsite. We also ship some medical supplies as it is much easier than trying to fly with them.

I believe the bell service job is a tipped position at Disney which means they are making below minimum wage. That means this $6 charge is paying the entire hourly wage Of said employee. We can agree to disagree but it is a money grab.

Agreed.

There are zillions (hyperbole) of threads on here and elsewhere with non-DVC guests discussing their grocery orders. While I don't doubt some are needed due to allergies/medical reasons, others are just to save money on buying food at Disney. While there are no rules against that, with this influx of grocery deliveries, Disney has to store and then deliver all these groceries. They have to have staffing and storage solutions for it (including cold storage).
Thus your $6 charge.

Even if it is Disney's way of trying to curb all the grocery orders, I really don't blame them. :)

If Disney can drive people to eat the $$ food on their restaurants, they will.
