New charge for Bell Service Delivery

I hope that’s true. This wording suggests otherwise to me. From earlier in the thread:

Effective today, If you have something from bell services delivered to your room, other than your luggage that came through Magical Express, Disney will charge you a $6 charge per trip. This policy applies to groceries, gift baskets, strollers or anything that you ask bell services to deliver to your room.

I wouldn't trust that "source".

Has anyone seen a statement from Disney on their new policy, or from at least one of the more common sources?

I absolutely agree. The precise Disney wording that I’m aware of is on their mail delivery page:

Please note that a $6 per package handling fee will apply to all packages that are received through the Front Desk or are delivered to your Disney Resort hotel room.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/mail-services/

I don’t remember what the previous wording means. I’m not even 100% certain this applies to items left with Bell Services by a third party except that there have been reports that it does.

As with everything, a clearly written policy and reported history of enforcement are the only things that will bring clarity.

However, based on that wording, I can’t possibly see them charging to deliver to your room anything you personally leave with bell services. That’s just not how Bell Services works (yet)!

Sooooooo.......
If someone opts out of maid service, and then asks for more towels, coffee, creamer, or other sundry items they can charge the $6.00 delivery fee for each request???
If that's the case I'll keep the maid service and tip the maids.
They get to keep all of that tip and have always been good about leaving extra consumables if asked to do so.
And under those conditions people with small children will have to pay the **** fee plus tip the person delivering a Pack & Play.
Maybe they should rename the place Wallet Disney World and change their motto to "If you can't afford our prices, you don't deserve to be happy".

The WDW NT article on this seems to suggest there’s a 6 dollar charge for all grocery deliveries even those picked up at the front desk?

I’m sorry but for 650 a night for the cheapest room and lowest bargain pricing in the 500’s if they are feeling generous for the holiday season Disney can stop adding fees up the wahzoo to everything. Next there’s going to be a fee for looking at the ginger bread house

Everybody knows Disney hotels are really expensive and they always have been, this isn't new. You figure out if the cost works for you.
If it doesn't, you can choose to stay off-site or not to go at all. And be honest, the values and moderates are decently priced, it's the deluxe where it gets outrageous.

Again, I have a lot of issues with the way pricing is going lately for a lot of stuff at Disney, just not this. :)

How, exactly? Both end up at Bell Services and both get delivered to the room - one for $6 and the other for free.
The groceries you purchase in the store and leave with th Bell Sevices weren't delivered to the resort by an outside company.
They didn't come at a cost a couple of days ago.
Things change. Loose ice in coolers was allowed through security at the parks until a week ago.
Here's the problem though.

Garden Grocer charges a delivery fee. They also have a spot for a tip when you order online and I believe it states the tip goes to the staff. Now Disney is charging another delivery fee and there's another tip to the bellman. That's two delivery fee's and two tips. Depending on your tipping habits that's somewhere between $20-$50 to get $100 of groceries delivered. A little extreme by anyone's standards.

Again, I tip well on vacation I'm not going to take out my wrath on an underpaid overworked CM who is struggling to feed his family, but there are many who won't see it that way.
Sometimes people don't think to think things through.I am curious, though, why it's so acceptable to so many people for an outside delivery to charge a service fee and allow/expect its employees to be tipped, but not for Disney :confused3
I thought I tipped well too but no way would I end up tipping $50 for $100 worth of groceries.
Okay? :confused3
If the GG fee is $10, you tip GG staff $10, Disney fee is $6, and Disney CM tip is $10, that's $36 to get $100 of groceries delivered. Adds up quick. I usually tip GG staff $20 and the Disney CM gets $10-$20 depending on how much there is to carry.
When the amassed charges are in the 'ridiculous' zone, would it be possible to maybe consider modifying who gets tipped how much?

I think maybe this isn't written clearly enough, that it should say something like "If you have something from bell services delivered to your room, that was delivered to Bell Services by an outside company other than your luggage that came through Magical Express"
If someone opts out of maid service, and then asks for more towels, coffee, creamer, or other sundry items they can charge the $6.00 delivery fee for each request???
and
How do these meet the criteria of being delivered to Bell Services by an outside company and being delivered to your room by Bell Services?

Can someone tell me what the current cost is for a bottle of water (16 oz) in the resort shop? (SSR). Really the only thing I truly want is a case of water for drinking/making coffee in my DVC room. If I am ordering water then I might add a few snacks, some cheese etc. But can’t I just get water delivered from Amazon Prime Now and then even with the $6 Bell Services fee (plus tip) still come out ahead?

You can get a case of 12oz bottles of Dasami for $6.99 or an 8-pack of the same for $3.99.

I just picked up my very first order of groceries at Walmart and realized that I forgot to get any cash to tip the Walmart employee who brought the groceries to the car. I was mortified that I forgot. When I got there I explained and he said that they could not take tips. Well I was somewhat relieved, but still felt horrible. I would never in a million years not tip for Bell services. Have people lost their mind?
You don't tip Wal-Mart grocery pick up. Delivery to your house is different.

Do I need to tip the store associate or driver who helps with my order?
Store associates do not accept tips, but a "thank you" is always appreciated! Delivery drivers may accept tips for good service, but it is not required.

And while I fully recognize and adhere that you tip at xyz, picking up my order from Wal-Mart grocery pick up is not one I would personally think to tip on.

Nice of you to think of it though :)

Almost all hotels and resorts charge a parking fee.
No they don't. It's usually location specific.

If you go to a hotel in Disney Springs you're likely going to pay a parking fee and potentially a resort fee. If you're off property there are many hotels that don't charge either or at least don't charge a parking fee.

I don't think the fee Disney is supposedly going to be charging is crazy out of line. I do think for some the issue is compounded fees. It's like fee after fee after fee for a grocery delivery. Disney just ends up being the fall guy here. It also can be a cumulative irritation at Disney for feeling like it's fee after fee after fee. For some people it's not $6 is the principle of the matter but here are def. choices people can make. I too don't want tips to be affected by this but I do understand the mentality. It's not the first time people view the delivery fee as the be-it-all amount owed.

I do think the best thing would be clear information (which I know I know it's how these things work). Nothing like trying to figure out if it's just delivery to your room, delivery to the hotel period, applies to any and all things delivered to your room, etc.

Yet is the operative word.

Because GG is the ones providing the service. They are filling the order and delivering it. Most would expect a delivery fee. I'm not sure what others are doing, but when we check in at CSR (our resort of choice) the bellman brings us, our luggage, and our groceries to the room on a cart all at the same time. There isn't an extra trip for the groceries. He gets tipped accordingly. There no reason why there needs to be an extra fee because there is a couple bags of groceries. As I stated before I'm not in the income bracket where $6 changes my life.

Your second question is what we've been discussing. I feel like some people will adjust their tipping. I feel like the Disney CM will get a smaller tip because of this fee.

You're right it is the principle of it that has everybody fired up and the communication needs to be clear.

One other thing I haven't mentioned yet is no other hotel or resort that I've stayed at in Orlando charges a fee for grocery storage or delivery. Disney would be the only one.

Wait, what about the “industry standard” rationale?

I'm not sure where this is industry standard? ;)

In the Orlando tourist bubble I've had good sized orders from GG delivered to Royal Pacific Resort at Universal and also Wyndham Grand Orlando at Bonnet Creek. Neither charged any fees and the storage/delivery service provided by the resort was comparable to what we received at CSR.
