(I haven’t seen this posted yet, but please forgive if I’ve overlooked it.) The CDC came out with updated guidance for cruise ships this weekend, recommending that ALL passengers be tested prior to embarkation regardless of vaccination status. It seems like most other cruise lines are doing this already. I wonder why DCL isn’t and if they will follow suit.

The guidance says as of 9/13, so if they are going to implement it, I’d think they have to get the info out there very soon (which clearly isn’t their forte).

Update 352 incoming

I joke but have to think Disney implements this. The great thing? 9/13 is our first cruise of a back to back. I guess the good thing though is that it isn't the 2nd part since then we would be in a pickle if they wanted the pre-arrival testing.

HOPEFULLY Disney expands what tests they accept if they do implement this. Upon looking up other cruise lines it seems they all are a little different but some accept the rapid test prior to port arrival instead of requiring the PCR testing that Disney expects prior to port arrival.

Maybe Disney just does testing at port though?

We are really going to be in a pickle and now I’m panicking. We sail 9/20-9/24 on the Dream and then 9/25-9/29 on the Fantasy. How the heck do I get that to work?

They may not require pre testing. IF they do you would have two options:
Schedule a test on 9/25 in FL
Order Inspire testing kit and do/mail it on 9/20 before boarding the ship

Ok. So I am on a 9/10 cruise. I am getting excited! But... my disney online check in still says it is pending. My safe passage states all cleared. So... do I need some sort of scanning thingamagig , what do they scan at the port, etc? I have the one from disney, my name port time...has a scan-able logo. This is a 3nt cruise. This is my trial and hopefully no error cruise before my longer one. Now I hear this...testing for everyone...

Take a breath - the CDC is recommending testing for everyone. DCL hasn't announced that they will require such testing - yet.

When/if they do, you will be notified as to what you need to do.

One of the reasons why we are sitting out the first few months of cruising. Every cruise seems to be a test cruise.

Let the fall season bring out the tough, but hopefully steady-state, rules. And we will know what we are looking at for our January cruise.

For my 100% vaccinated cruise to AK on NCL this Friday, all passengers will be tested at the port. It’s the quick antigen test. No extra charge to the passenger. I was wondering if /when DCL would / will follow suit. They already have a set-up at PC. Just an additional level of comfort - as there are break-through cases.

Don't panic about the "pending" online checkin. They run late. Ours wasn't approved until 1pm the day before sailing for 8/23 and others have reported about the same.

Sounds no different to what they do already in the UK for the Staycation cruises. LFT test on arrival at port, really easy added about an hour to process.

One thing with the DIY kits, you may be required to get the one that does a zoom/web call with a medical professional for them to observe you and certify it. Royal will accept that one, but not the unsupervised mail in one.

So IF DCL comes out with this requirement (and I think they should follow the other lines and do it), make sure you read carefully what tests they will accept.

I know Carnival is doing this, and I think other cruise lines as well.

Those with side by side cruises on the same cruise line (disembark from one ship, and set sail on another ship within a couple of days), you'd be tested on the first ship with those sailing on B2B cruises. Hopefully, that's what Disney will do, if they don't do the instant test at the pier.

Personally, I totally support requiring testing before. However I can see how some people might run into issues getting results back on time. It'd be great if they could offer it at the port even if it is just a rapid test.

I support testing also! Just hope it doesn’t throw a wrench into the works for our 2 consecutive (but not B2B) cruises.

If you’re doing a back to back, they should be able to test you on the ship for your second cruise.

Every other cruise line is doing this already. It’s the CDC that is matching them, not the other way around. NCL tests you at the port, Royal makes you test 3 days prior to boarding. If your test doesn’t come back you’re SOL.

Yes but Royal accepts a rapid test making it much easier to accomplish a test within three days.

If Disney was ever to change to a 3-day timeline they would have to allow rapid tests.

Not the kind of rapid test you can buy OTC and do yourself. The Binax is the type that has to be done infront of a doctor via telemedicine.
