Ok My repaired Canon Eos 60d is back and now I am going to WDW in 6 days with just my 15-85mm and was also going to bring a 18-135 for some telephoto but I have to return that. I am not sure if I should get the 18-200mm for the trip to just put on for my telephoto needs and convenience or get the 55-250mm for the focal length I am not covering. My concern is I will have time to change lenses but with two 4yr old twins I will not be able to do it mid show or parade or whatever. I am just concerned about the 18-200mm because a lot of reviews talk about it being soft past 100mm which is where I lack and I just cannot afford the 70-200mm f4 is now nor would I want to lug that around. Please someone help me to decide if 85mm is enough or if i should get an additional lens and which one?

Only choices are:
18-135, 18-200, 70-300usm, 55-250mm is or none.

AK is the only place I used the long end of my 18-200. Other than that most of my pictures were under 70mm I would say.

Thanks but some of mine where over say 100mm, 135mm and some even 200mm. We are spending a full day at AK and am worried it might not be enough. I also just don't want to just buy a lens for nothing. Please keep the thoughts coming.

It sounds a lot like you're rushing to get a lens to fill a need you're not even sure you'll have. Let me ask you this, are you gong to Disney for a fun vacation with your family? Or are you going to Disney to take professional pictures?

If your answer is for vacation with your family (like many of us) then I wouldn't worry about what lens you don't have and concentrate on using what you do have well. The lack of a certain lens isn't going to stop you form having great shots of your vacation. But obsessing over it could ruin your vacation. As could missing shots because you've got a new lens that you're not proficient with and you end up frustrated. Wait to buy a lens until you have the time to really find what you want, don't just get one because you feel you must have it for this trip. If you really feel you need it that bad then rent one, you still have time. But if it were me I'd spend that money on my vacation and worry about getting more glass later.

I think just for my sanity I will bring the 70-300mm just in case so it will force me to have to reach above 85mm to use it and if I don't then when I get home I will return it. This way it will take my sanity to a tolerable level. the 18-200mm is not enough and I think after the trip I will be shooting for a 17-55 but its out of stock where I would need to get it now. How does that sound? Any opinions?

now I am considering trying the 24-70mm but am worried it has no IS any experience with this lens on a crop camera?

Sorry to complicate things......... Have you considered the Tamron 18-270 VC? It actually gets pretty decent reviews.

Yeah i could have done the canon 18-200mm but i like the image quality of my 15-85 better plus it has a usm motor which focuses faster. If i were to go with another i would take the 70-300 usm. Its not bad.

The 24-70 2.8L is a fantastic lens. I've used it to shoot high school basketball from underneath the basket and haven't missed the IS.

That being said, in general I prefer the 17-55 2.8. It is lighter than the 24-70, has IS, and on a crop sensor I prefer having the 17-23 range available rather than the 56-70.

Honestly, you could not go wrong with either lens.

I wish the 17-55 were available and the 24-70 I hear is coming out in a mk ii version with IS so I think I am just going to wait until after the trip to decide. I think it will be just too much.

Sorry about hijacking the thread but -

My repaired Canon Eos 60d is back

Having just purchased a 60D 4 weeks ago with high expectations and a big trip planned to The World in 5 weeks this REALLY caught my eye.

How long have you had your camera? What went wrong with it?

1 yr. something with the shutter inside the camera but i would have faith. That was the only camera that ever failed me you will like it. What lens are you bringing?

What lens are you bringing?

All of them ;)

...sorry :)

Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS
Canon EF 50mm f1.8
Canon EF 70-200mm f4L

and (hopefully)

Canon 10-22mm f3.5 - f4.5

I say hopefully because - since I don't make money on my photography (just a gifted amateur :rotfl2:) - I don't buy it unless I have the cash in my hand and dang-nab-it the blasted water heater choose 3 weeks ago to give up the ghost and that ate up much of my 10 - 22 money. So we will see.

I have high hopes for the combo of the 60D and the 17-55 for the illusive Dark Ride shots as well as other night time shots. I also think the 50 will do well on the Dark Ride shots (thanks to it's higher ISO and better focusing system than my Rebel XS, which struggled on the Dark Rides) as well as on other night time shots, especially shots where the IS of the 17-55 won't help as much (Parades for example).

I probably won't tote the 70-200 to the MK or EPCOT, but I'm hoping that with the 60D's ISO range I will be able to use it at Fantasmic and of course I'll take it to AK.

I was hoping to use the 10-22 for the Holiday Wishes fireworks which I've managed to get excellent shots of with the 18-55 kit lens - but the 18mm end of the kit lens just isn't wide enough to gather it all in side to side if you are standing in the central plaza. And I plan to watch Holiday Wishes from the beach at the Poly as well - and I would like to get all the fireworks from around Seven Seas lagoon in the shot as well. So I'm still crossing my fingers.
