New Cancelation Policy question

We were told by our TA this morning that we cannot cancel and rebook a GTY rate. If I cancel and rebook it has to be the standard room rate. Did I miss this in the new policy? This doesn't seem right to us. We have a very limited travel window. Thanks!

You cannot cancel, you can only *change* your cruise.

Not 100% sure but I don't think you can change your reservation to a xGT, I believe those have to be booked as new reservations.

Edit: on my future cruise I can change to a IGT but it would cost $24,000,662. Not sure if this is a glitch to prevent me for doing this, or if this is a website issue, this is doable, and the price shown online is wrong.

It makes sense--otherwise you would have people gaming the system by cancelling their March-May cruises on booking another one (either on the same ship a slightly different date or a different ship the same dates) to take advantage of the discounted GT fares. The point of this is to give people flexibility due to concern about coronavirus, not given people a change to get a cheaper fare on basically the same cruise at the same time.

On another thread someone using a TA was able to change to a “dummy” cruise some few months away, then re-change back to a xGT on their original sailing.

I believe DCL agents will not allow this, and wouldn't be surprised if TA were required not to do this in the next few days. (Such rules already exist with airline that prevent TA from selling some cheaper rates that would circumvent their rules.)

AFAIK, if you are cancelling a cruise that falls in the window covered by the the policy, you can make a new booking, for a future cruise, AT THE PREVAILING RATE. Say you cancel your current booking, and you paid $1200 for the reservation, you can apply that $1200 to a new reservation, and pay the difference in price (if any) that the new reservation is going for.

If DCL cottons on that people are using their (in my opinion, generous) new rebooking policy to rebook the same thing on their current cruise at a discounted last-minute fare after PIF.... just makes me nervous about the odds of this kind of thing being offered again if another pandemic happens.

Why it’s a win for DIsney they booked a new cruise and are still taking the original cruise. There going to have a heck of time selling any remaining rooms on their European cruises.

You shouldn't get so nervous. This is a common situation in the travel industry: lower fares are introduced to yield price, some find a way to abuse, new rules are made to prevent abuse.

DCL will soon know about it, and will have two choices: either they don't care, or they notify all their travel agents that should they use these tricks, they will be required to pay the difference of pricing.

Does the new cancellation policy apply to all cruises between the dates given or only certain cruises (European etc). We are slotted to sail on fantasy later this month to the Western Caribbean. Still undecided about going or rescheduling.

All cruises. Med cruises have an extended window to rebook your cruise.

Are you asking about GTY (as in 4A GTY) or a *GT rate? AFAIK, the discounted IGT, OGT and VGT rates require a "new booking" and are not available to transfer any prior booking to one. There should be no reason you can't book a specific category GTY with your credit, though.
