I'm usually a point & shoot camera person
I'm looking at getting a new camera - I'll have $300 to shop with
the only thing that I really want is AA or AAA batteries - hate the special ones that can't be replace in the parks
plus would be getting a good photo on Pirates of the Caribean & getting things closer

what would ya get?? I have Wal-mart & Staples $ Radio Shack in town

Getting a good shot on PotC.... that's a tough one because it's technically demanding. It's super low light and from a moving vehicle. I'm not saying you can't get the shots with a point and shoot, but it's really pushing what a point and shoot can do.

As far as the rest of your requirements... what other features do you want? Canon, Fuji and Panasonic are the brands I tend to look at for point and shoots (I'm partial to Fuji). But without more of an idea of the features you want it's kind of stabbing in the dark because there are so many models out right now.

point & shoot is all I have ever had - open to anything really
I scrapbook so I take pictures of everything - usually taking lots then deleting any that I don't like
I do have 2 non-verbal teenage boys so lots so I get one is usual for me
I guess speed is the big thing - taking several shots one after the other so I can get the one shot (saying smile for the camera isn't going to happen)

If you go to DPReview and click on "database" you can select cameras by features, including battery type. There are about 25 they list that use AA batteries, the trend is definitely toward proprietary rechargeable batteries..

I stuck with AA digital cameras as long as I could.

Now it is amoost too hard to find many AA cameras because manufactures think if you want AA you want a large camera. My last AA powered camera was more conpact than what AA cameras they usually sell 5 years later. Battery packs are not so expensive once you realize you can often buy 2 Chinese made replacements plus a charger for about $25 at Amazon...
