NEW California-Florida Premier Passport

I think someone else asked, but I'm not sure if it was answered, can you upgrade the WDW premium pass to the premier pass at DL or does the upgrade have to happen at WDW? I know it doesn't save any money and the expiration date will be the same as the WDW premium, but it does spread out the payment a little bit if we can wait to upgrade the WDW pass at DL.

Well, you will save money buying the Premier pass over two individual passes, but my point is that the DVC discount is lost in the upgrade transaction.

I get your point, my point is who cares about the DVC discount when you are already saving at least $180.00. That's way more than a DVC discount. The way I look at it is this pass had DVC members in mind hence the big savings right off the bat.

I don't know for certain, but I bet the answer is that it can be done at either place. DL and CA both have a prominent office area / building for handling APs. We had our picture taken for the Premier at the one inside CA.

Since we are dealing with two premium annual passes those were the only numbers I crunched. So a non DVC PAP is just over 600 with tax and a DL PAP is 349. Now if I look at the discounted price of a WDW PAP that is about 550 and a DL is 329. So 550+329 is 879. Looks like I save 179 before tax with a Premier Pass.

The current price of the DL Deluxe AP with DVC discount is $309 and the DL Premium AP with DVC discount is $419. As DVC members, we figured that we the Premier will cost about $35 over DL DAP and WDW DAP. --Suzanne

I'm curious, are you looking at some price increase for the DL AP? DL AP website shows the Deluxe AP at $299 - $20 DVC discount would be $279.:confused3

Did WDW lower their prices? When we were at WDW at the end of Feb DW need her pass renewed so we got her a PAP with DVC discount for over 500. I think it was 546 or something with tax. We of course had to renew because the Premier Pass was not announced.

Don't confuse the Deluxe with the Premier. I think that is where some people's math is off on the savings.

You know. I did do my math wrong. I forgot The DL PAP is 439 and the DVC price or the regular renewal is 419. So the savings are even higher than I first thought.

You're right! That's why my additional cost to upgrade a DL DAP + a WDW AP to a Premier AP is about $35. --Suzanne

Sorry, I am just a little confused. Are you saying $35 is not worth having no blackout dates and bigger in park discounts?

I don't understand why we are comparing an upgrade with the Disneyland DAP w/ the WDW PAP.
The DAP (Deluxe Annual Passport) has blockout dates and no parking, the Disneyland Premium Passport has no blockout days and parking. The parking perk alone is another $69 (or maybe more now).

The Premier Passport is the equivelant of the Disneyland PAP and the WDW AP w/ water parks, Disney Quest and golf at Oak Trails thrown in.

I have the Premier Passport (although my husband does not). I live about an hour from Disneyland, so I go fairly often. I sometimes take visiting friends or family, so I like to be able to go during summer or weekends, and I go often enough that having parking paid for instead of paying each time is worth it. Therefore I generally get either the DAP w/ parking added, or the Premium AP. This year I have two week long trips to WDW, one coming up in July with the girls, and one with my husband next March. I'll get more than my money's worth out of the Premier pass.

Next year, I may not travel to WDW much, so I'll probably just get a Disneyland AP.

If you are traveling to both parks, I think the Priemier Passport is a great deal.

I'll agree with the others and say that Disneyland still hasn't figured out what this passport is or how to effeciently give the discounts that are available to it's holders. I wish they put our picture on it, because I hate having to dig out my ID everytime I use it for a discount.

Sorry for causing all the confusion.
We compared the DL DAP plus the WDW AP to the cost of the Premier AP because those are tickets we would otherwise be buying.

With the DVC discount, our additional OOP for the Premier would be $35. That is worth it for us to add no blockout days for DL and waterparks for WDW.

The discounts at DL are nice but not a big deal for us. I think we need to spend $700 on dining at DL for the bigger discount to break even. Thanks to the VGC, on our recent 3 day Dl trip, we only spent about $75 on dining.

We live 4 hours from DL and have only used DL parking once since CA opened. -- Suzanne

You can do the upgrade at DL as well.

Thanks for clearing it up. Now I understand.

My daughter and I have a DVC WDW AP pass good thru December. We're going to DL in October, and plan to go into the parks for 3 days.

I didn't think it was work us to upgrade, but if anyone knows that would be super....becuase I think it would cost us around $300 to upgrade to the WDW / DL for three days, so we were planning on just buying the DL park tickets seperate.

Advice appreciated, Goldi

EXACTLY!!!!
That is what was bothering me and why I opened the thread for discussion. It IS A GOOD DEAL as an alternative to purchasing two full-priced premier passes, but we lose all/any DVC discounts when you do this.

We were just at our home resort at the Grand Californian and I was told by the Villas rep at guest check-in that I should get a 20% discount and asked if I wanted to take care of it through her....I thought, "Wow! Not what I have been hearing."

I wasn't ready to commit over $2K on the spot, so I didn't do it. Perhaps I should have!!! This could have been an error on her part, but I should have looked into it further.

Don't want to spread any rumors, get anybody in trouble, or instigate frustration...that's just what I was told.

See this is what I do not understand. When I see people complain about the no DVC discount I think that they would rather spend an extra $200.00 to get a DVC discount to get the same entitlements as a Premier Pass. What am I missing? Like I have said, I believe the DVC discount is already built into the price as it seems DVC members just may be the target audeance for this pass.

Last April my friend needed to renew her WDW pass. Since she already had a DLR PAP, it was cheaper for her to upgrade to the premier pass then to get a WDW AP with her DVC discount. I think she saved about $130 or so... I can't remember but I do know it was a good chunk of change.

That is what I am saying. Sounds like you and I may be in agreement.

If you are in DVC and only buy Deluxe APs then the new Premier does cost more. If you don't need the parking and water parks then the regular Deluxe DL AP is better a option along with WDW tickets.

I guess what I'm trying to say is not everyone buys the Premium AP for both parks so then the DVC discount does make a difference.
