new blog: Legends and Windows – Disney Costume Designer Alice Davis

Thank you Nancy for your article and coverage of the tribute to Alice Davis. She is truly a remarkable woman. It was fantastic that D23 included her in the panel discussions at the Expo. It is equally fantastic that Disney honored her with the window next to her Husband while she could see it and enjoy it. :thumbsup2 :tink:

What a lovely article and tribute to such a wonderful lady. Definitely the honor of the window was a long time coming. Loved the Hungarian dress that she made btw! So beautiful!

Thanks for all of the nice comments on my tribute. I'm hoping that later in the year, or next year, I can get the opportunity to sit with her for and interview and talk about her career. I simply adore her.

I also was completely amazed that the photo I had taken last year of a little dress made by Alice (and being sold at the Disneyana shop for $4000) turned out to be the actual dress that is portrayed in the window! I was going to comment in the article that "I guess they must not have sold it!" :lmao:

Just saw this - nice coverage.
I had an foiled opportunity -- was supposed to pick Alice up for the Bob Gurr book release party - rented a big car, drove all the way to her house - and she wasn't feeling well! She promised to invite me to lunch someday - fingers crossed.

I was SO looking forward to spending an hour driving her around :)

I have been fortunate enough to see Alice a few times at D23 events. What an amazing woman and such stories! I was able to attend the Small World presentation at the last Expo and Alice and Richard Sherman were guests, hosted by the wonderful Tony Baxter who seemed genuinely interested in the whole thing. This picture shows Alice with original Small World costumes and she told some great stories about how these came to be.

For a 1313 club event back in Sept 2011 I tried to recreate one of those dresses - it was used as a stage prop when Alice spoke. I REALLY grew to appreciate her amazing talent making it - it was SO complicated to layout the designs. Here's a picture of the end result - not nearly as complex as the original in the pic above - I didn't do the pleated skirt. Still I'm kind of proud of the result.
