New attractions coming to HS and MK and height limits

So going with that math of 1,250 for the backlot trams I found out one tram of 200 people left every 4 minutes so 60/4=15 15 trams an hour. 200 times 15=3,000 now add the 1,250 and it’s 4,250, which is much closer to those four attractions listed. Now factor in that the average ride you listed last wayyyyyy less time. I think if you add up all the ride times combined they still equal less time than one of the removed things. But like @disneygolfer1985 said, that’s more opportunity to spend money and charge for lightening lanes.
So I did a quick check. Ride times of the new rides:
Rise of the resistance: 18 minutes
Smugglers run: 5 minutes
Slinky dog: 2 minutes
Alien saucers: 2 minutes

The new rides are less than 30 minutes; whereas, the backlot tour alone was 35 minutes so it is shorter rides for the ability to have people spend more money to not wait in lines or buy merchandise.

I stopped going to the Backlot Tour after the first decade. It was fun at the time, but would be irrelevant today. Some of the stuff back then were already archaic to me, I don't see how the younger generations could find them interesting.

Osborne lights were just at night but the streets of America were packed from 5:30 until park closing so it helped moved the crowds around and you didn’t have to wait in lines. That’s kind of my main point by removing rides that were long rides. Maybe the capacity wasn’t as high based on some research but you were not waiting in a line for an hour and actually doing something. Now all the new rides usually have an hour wait for a max 5 minute ride.
Interesting. A lot of the shows stop at around 5 or 6 pm, like frozen and beauty, beauty and the beast and Disney junior and the others, plus a lot of character meet and greets also end towards 5-6pmish. Maybe that could absorb some of the late evening crowds because the stuff to do at Hollywood studios drops a lot around 5-6pmish

Wow my suspicion was right it is less than 30 minutes and every single one of those rides has a height limit. Big difference and two of those rides regularly have the longest wait times of over an hour plus. It really changes the desirability of the park for little kids.

we don’t have a TV in my house and my kids get basically zero screen time, they find everything interesting including living with the land, which they ask to go on. Backlot tour was at least as interesting as living with the land (which was better when they had a live guide on each of the boats).

Most kids don’t require much to be entertained on a ride since it’s all new stimuli and unique. Especially some of the scenes on backlot tours. Disney could always adjust rides and make things slightly different like they have done on guardians. But they don’t and things can get stale

I see younger kids on those rides all the time (especially the ones in TSL).

I mean it was only during the holidays which would be peak crowds but it helped disperse the crowds evenly.

My youngest is 40” now but not a thrill seeker so there aren’t as many rides that she will want to do at DHS because of the thrill attractions.

I don't disagree with the discussion around height restrictions, as someone who was not tall enough to ride many rides for a long time as a kid I get it as I always felt a certain way not being tall enough. But it doesn't mean a traveling party wouldn't enjoy the park. I grew up going to my local amusement park without being able to ride a good portion of it, I survived and found other things to enjoy :)

A point has already been made by the few comments regarding kids being tall enough but not being thrill seekers. Just because one is tall enough doesn't mean one is going to ride an attraction and just because one can't ride an attraction due to their height doesn't me the park won't have something else to offer.

That said I do think DHS is lite on things as mostly the other stuff is show related and not every kid will like that either. However, Disney at least does have multiple other parks.

Height limits in any amusement park I have ever been to relates to safety. Various rides need restraints due to the nature of the ride. I would trust Disney to have the proper balance of safety vs how many rides are offered for children.

I don’t think anyone claims height limits relate to anything else but safety, nor is anyone claiming certain rides don’t actually need certain restraints.

I think you are missing the point of this discussion as it had nothing to do with safety.

Child swapping results in a ride taking a lot more time, if a lightening lane is used it’s at least double the time. If it is standby queue then I don’t believe the children who aren’t tall enough can wait in the line so the family is separate the entire waiting time which just makes things more burdensome in the park.

Well now I'm afraid you're missing the point of my comment as I didn't mention child swap at all.

I spoke to the enjoyment out of the park and the interests of the traveling party and in case you missed it I was partially agreeing with you, partially, but still an agreement (specifically regarding DHS in particular for what can be had at the park).

Yea you are right I did. Child swapping at Disney just isn’t a very family friendly policy and grinds my gears lol. If Disney had a better child swapping policy, particularly on rides like guardians of the galaxy then it would be a huge improvement because at least then the little kids could be in the queue and the pre show rooms and stuff. Then the switch would be much quicker. With child swap it requires double pre show and all of that.

Anyways yea I’m not sure what I was responding too, I think maybe it was also meant to respond to the commenter above. Hollywood studios just really makes child swapping problematic.

Back to your point Hollywood studios does have a lot of non-ride things but if on a budget it’s hard to justify it compared to magic kingdom. Which sucks because Hollywood has a few unique offerings such as the shows that Epcot and MK don’t have in person.

I do think Universal has a better child swap process as they have rooms/areas to wait inside the attraction/queue area but in respects to height requirements they are not the best example.

Yea you would think with regards to the newer rides Disney could have improved the child swap situation a bit more. I couldn’t imagine trying to coordinate it with a significant other before cell phones
