Don't know if anyone has posted this, but MSN has gotten in on the MagicBand debate...

http://money.msn.com/technology-investment/post--disney-bets-big-on-visitor-tracking-technology

Don't know how much this will help/hinder Disney marketing? It makes it seem like they are hearing A LOT of backlash...

Anyone have thoughts? Do you think negative media could possibly make Disney make more abrupt changes?

Let the debate begin!popcorn::

Updated: This now shows up on the front page of MSN.com...it seems like this news item will be making the rounds :)

I read the article.

Iger and the "Disney spokeswoman" are both delusional.

I think there are going to be changes and that was planned all along. They have to get a handle on capacity figures before they can start allowing more FP+.

I think a mistake was not having the technology working before they rolled it out to all onsite guests.

Interesting. Key phrases I'm taking away from this article.

Disney bets big on visitor-tracking technology

MyMagic+ promises far more radical change.

Intelligence collected using the bands coupled with what visitors input into the related My Disney Experience app and website -- all voluntary -- help Disney determine when to add more staff at rides, what restaurants should serve, which souvenirs should be stocked, and how many employees in costume should roam around at any given time

A Disney World spokeswoman says 80 percent of the comments on social media about MyMagic+ have been positive, and just 2 percent have been negative.

Ummmm...

Agreed....

I love how they try to create a "positive" spin on this.

I'm sure Disney is not too happy on the negative press on such a major site as MSN...

Who knows? Maybe this will help for upcoming fall/late fall promos?

One can only hope :)

A Disney spokeswoman says neither lines for its reserved spots nor walk-up lines are longer. The number of attractions on which slots can be reserved has doubled to 60 and limits on advance reservations for the most popular rides should allow all guests to book at least one of their top choices, Disney says. A Disney World spokeswoman says 80 percent of the comments on social media about MyMagic+ have been positive, and just 2 percent have been negative.
My sides are aching from laughing so hard. Notice how they don't say that lines are shorter. And, Oh Boy! Guests can book one of their top choices. And can they please direct me to the social media that is trending 80 to 2? Must be an internal intranet site. They must not count FB, micechat, Dis or any other site I have seen.

Yes

Apparently this "spokeswoman" is not a DisBoard member :rotfl:

Agreed...but, it makes me wonder if they will start making the changes sooner rather than later? It seems like they are open to making changes in the system, but it might not be for a while.

I think after Disney sees this article, maybe they'll see more an urgency to make the FP+ better on the MagicBands.

I also love in the article how they make it seems like it's "80% positive comments"...I'm sure the positive comments are about the convenience of not having to take out a card for a room key, for purchases, tickets, etc. I'm sure they're not even counting in the negative comments on FP+...

Just my theory.

Nor does she ever look at the WDW Facebook page.

Be Our Guest is not that great of an example. in January, it took forever to get our food because they couldn't find me. and apparently, once they finally found me, they had to remake my food. this same thing happened to the table next to us too. :/

"I'd say the biggest impact is, one, being able to accommodate more people because it's just more efficient," Iger said, "and second, enabling guests to have a substantially better experience than they've had before because they're doing more."

I like the idea of the bands and am reserving judgment for FP+ until I use it next month.

BUT his second point? Yeah I kinda think Disney thinks I have "fool" written across my forehead.

:lmao::thumbsup2 She is way off! Has she even been onto the WDW Facebook reviews page? Another thing is she refers to MM+
MyMagic + is not the problem. On the whole I am happy with the concept, minus the glitches. FP+ is another beast entirely. And this is the hot topic. So their own spokesperson failed to differentiate between the two? Interesting .... :rolleyes1

Sorry, but the thing that jumps out at me most is this..."allowing Disney employees to address a child by name". The head of parks thinks parents will like reading this??

Note to Disney: DO NOT TRACK MY CHILD UNLESS I LOSE HER!!!!

They are so out of touch it is unreal. That said, I agree with all of the above posts. Interesting that the positive guest comment was "in the end this will make Disney better"

~Are you sure?

I love the caption that goes with the picture on msn.com:

"Disney Change Sparks Backlash" :cheer2:

I'm sure it will get a lot of curious people to find out what this is all about.

For newbies, many of you are right: People do not want to feel like they are being "tracked"

And, if you read a lot of the comments, people do not like that aspect.

Same -- the system must not have been working when we were there. They kept going table to table with the food til they got the right guest. It took at least half an hour to get served.

What I don't get is how FP+ allows for greater capacity at the MK. It seems to be doing the opposite. Are they roping in the capacity gains of the Snow White Mine Train into those figures since it opens soon?

I feel like the strongest indicator is the "rolling boulder" idea that Kevin Yee mentions. Yesterday, I spoke to my sister, who's a Disney fan but hasn't visited since 2008. She's taking her kids in June and hates the idea of FP+. She also wants nothing to do with the Magic Bands. My mom and dad go every year but aren't excessive planners (or riders), and they don't even want to go back at this point. These are anecdotal examples, but it's hardly just the diehards that have issues.

well I think by more capacity they are letting more people get FPs than before because everyone only gets three instead of everyone gets however mayn't hey get. They also just opened up an expansion which does allow more people into the MK because there are a few more things. A new successful restaurant, little mermaid, belle, two dumbos, princess fairy tale hall etc. they can't factor in mine train yet because they don't know how successful it will be or how many people per hour it brings in. Based on their facts FP+ should shorten wait times in standby and should give more people the ability to ride what they want. In theory the new system is and should be great but it hasn't proved that yet. Again it's still not finished who knows if it ever will be. Magic bands by themselves I think are a great concept your room key, park ticket, credit card, and FPs all on one band instead of carrying a park ticket, room key, FPs, and your credit cards you just need the band. I think the biggest problem people have with the system is FP+. My one question is with your parents if they don't ride a lot of rides why is magic bands or FP+ a problem for them it shouldn't be that big of a deal just a thought.
