New AP system, blame yourselves!!

There are benefits to staying on-site and benefits to staying off-site.. On our last family trip to Disney we were there for two weeks, stayed off-site, had no traffic problems and were able to rent an entire cottage for the cost of a reduced-rate value room..

It's all a matter of how you want to spend your money, what's important to you in terms of benefits, and where you draw the line as to the "worth" of Disney rooms.. It would be great if I could get a room that I wanted on-site for the price I was willing to pay, but if I can't, I'm not going to boycott the parks just because I don't think the Disney Resort rooms are worth what they're going for.. :confused3 Is that what you're suggesting that people do?

I'm sorry, you misunderstood me. I don't like the thought of going to Disney without any discounts because I'm on a pretty tight budget myself and money goes only so far. I was just saying that Disney has you over the barrel as the old saying goes and they know it. Almost 20 million people last year went to the Magic Kingdom park in WDW and that's just MK by itself. I was just looking at it from Disney's point of view. It's like the Harley Davidson company. They have people waiting a year or longer to purchase their motorcycles and they charge a hefty pricetag on top of it, but the fans of Harley still will gladly pay it and Harley offers no discounts either. I don't like it but that is a free market system and not much you can do about it. If you have to stay off site to go then good for you and I wish you a good vacation. I don't like the prices of the Deluxe resorts either but once you stay at a deluxe resort you never want to go back to anything else, IMO. You get spoiled by it and you either pay the price or you don't. I posted a link to interesting article you should read, it's at the bottom of the page. I hope you read it because he talks about the AP changes in detail.

Hold the phone!!! Has any seen the following post http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=843069 ?!?!? A fellow DISer called CRO and they are saying that the "new plan" doesn't even exist!! It's a must read for everyone who's fired up!!!

While this should not happen, not every agent answering the phone at CRO even works for Disney directly or is in Florida. They know what the read on their computer or in a memo. Can't yall cut them some slack. Most are over worked, under paid reservation agents.

Great article - and a very interesting site..

It will be interesting to see how it all pans out, but just from what I've seen on these boards alone, I think there's a significant number of people who feel that the Disney Resort rooms are very overpriced and will choose to go off-site if reasonable discounts can't be had.. :flower:

Once again I feel like I am being punished for having a large family. My dh and I have 4 children 9, 7, 5 & 5. We all had AP's for our last two trips and have stayed at the CBR using AP rates in guaranteed connecting rooms. Now with the new system they will not guarantee connecting rooms for large families. I don't have a problem with a deposit or a change fee since we usually book our trips way before the 120 days. But to not guarantee connecting rooms when the kids out number the adults is not right. Our only option budget wise is to stay at a moderate in connecting rooms. The Ft. Wilderness cabins don't appeal at all to us. We live in N. Illinois and if I wanted to stay in a cabin we could just go to Wisconsin. I just wish Disney would realize that they are pushing large families took look at off property choices. We would rather stay on property, but at this rate we might not have a choice. I feel we would lose some of the magic if we have to stay off site.

The policy (though not necessary the practice) has been that they'll "guarantee" connecting rooms only when there aren't enough adults to ensure that there is at least one adult per room.

...which disallows a childs AP to have the same perks as an adult AP is 'fair' follow their rule one step further. How many of you who think this is a 'fair' change divide up your meal checks - if you are paying for the meal for someone who does not have an annual pass.........

I'm SURE you are splitting your meal tabs....... :sad2:

I must be misunderstanding what you mean, it specifically says passholder and up to 3 guests for AP dining discounts. The DDE card says for up to 10 people, one card per table.
