New AP Rate Policy

FYI: Just saw this on Mouseplanet....

n news breaking since Monday's Park Update, a new policy will restrict usage of Annual Passholder discounts. There will need to be at least one passholder in each room. This change was confirmed twice with Disney by Sue Pisaturo of Small World Vacations. The policy is so new that not all cast members are aware of the policy yet. Existing reservations should not be affected.

So I guess no more booking 3 rooms with one AP.

Changes to the dining plan, no more booking value season and carrying it through a higher season rate, holiday pricing at buffets, higher weekend rates and now this. I think Disney is trying to tell me something and I'm hearing loud and clear. After our December trip we will hold off and go when (if) we get a PIN or some special enticement to get us back.

While that won't affect us directly, as we only get 1 room, I think that's a bit harsh for some guests with kids who opt for a 2nd room. On the other hand, you would think if the parents have an AP, the kids might too.

They have changed sooooooooo much in the last few years it is insane.

Really think about it
1 - No more standard Park hopper ticket, just MYW
2 - Dining plan being added
3 - New Dining plan changes
4 - AP best rate program
5- Cancel of AP best rate
6 - No kids AP's to get room discount
7 - Change fees for changing reservations
8 - Moving dining to 180 days out
9 - Quite a few ticket increases
10 - Holiday pricing for food
11 - Possible higher weekend rates
12 - No carrying over from one season to another
13 - Taking away the free photo at things like MVMCP and MNSSHP

I guess I could go on and on but good golly, can you say nickel and dime. Not all changes are bad, but I think they are getting too big for their britches right now and the bigger they are the harder they fall (or at least in the terms of room rates hopefully ;) )

I guess I see it as way to deter a large group from getting only one AP and three rooms--as a passholder it is hard to get rooms sometimes at the passholder rate then to read where others have secured the rate and since they were not asked to show their passes they switch their vouchers for tickets or flat out don't get an AP.
Honestly I think abuse is so rampent that the changes occur as a result--DDP, AP, etc. Demand is high for holidays and your captive as well they are just stretching to see what the threshhold is--when restaurants and rooms are empty (really how many will follow through?) you'll see changes.

We get two rooms because I do not like being crammed into one and I am the only one with an AP because I usually take a solo trip too. This will affect us.

It is already expensive enough to visit the mouse and it was nice that there were some ways to make it affordable but Disney isn't looking to make things affordable for the regular folks.

This really doesn't seem right. While everyone in my family is a passholder, dh and I don't always travel together with the kids. Usually, we opt for 2 rooms. Thus, there is only one "adult" passholder with the group. Our kids our passholders; but, because of the change a couple of years ago, they can't have rooms booked in their names. This coupled with the current changes seems incredibly unfair when you consider that my 15 yo ds is an "adult" AP holder.

I have to agree here. It makes it hard for alot of AP holders to book a room at the AP rate when they get scooped up by larger groups, especially with the increased popularity of trips to WDW. I know I've had trouble recently getting any values at an AP rate, even calling right when the rates are announced...

Also agree, I'm pretty happy with this change.
