New AP perk - Disney Dining Experience

Unless it's like I was saying earlier, that the AP is needed to purchase and get the discount. Then you simply have the DDE, no matter what. You have paid for it, and you have it regardless of AP in the future. Checking ID is simply because they check ID for any kind of card/ticket at WDW nowadays. It just proves you are the one that bought it so groups can't go in together and get the rates.

She told me I had to show a valid ID..nothing about a valid AP ID. Makes sense to me, and I'm betting they will soon be offered to everyone. Heck the food prices will prob go up to offset the cost.

I would think you would just have to show your ID, like a driver's license to match up to the name on the DDE card. Even if your AP has expired you still paid for a year of DDE. Yes?

I think that maybe this is as simple as it's just a perk they're offering to APers. Nothing more. Hey! Get a discount on a DDE card! I doubt it is more involved than that. And someone else mentioned too about the $50 possibly coinciding with the 50th celebration. I thought I read somewhere every department had to do something special for this event.

Maybe we're all dwelling on this too much? Could be this was a one time perk and we'll never see it again.

haven't read all the comments, but it looks like you need to plan on spending at least $250.00 in Disney restaurants just to break even with purchasing the card at $50.00

I wonder why Teppanyaki and the Japan pavilion do not participate? One of the more expensive meals at EPCOT and no 20%--guess we'll do lunch M-F at this one!

At one time many of the Epcot restaruants (and DTD restaurants) did not particpate in this program. I believe it has to do with the management that actually run these restaurants. It's nice to see they've added most of them.

And Puffy2, you would be correct to say you would need to spend $250 to break even (it was more for us FL residents the past few years because the membership was more), but it's really not hard to do if you dine at a sitdown at least once a day with a family of 3 or 4 for just a few days! We've had the chance to meet up with friends and have dinner, so if you dine at a place like O'Hana's with a group of 10 you pretty much can break even from that one meal alone!

If you only travel to WDW once a year for a week or less and don't spend much on dining (which is tough not to do)..then the DDE card is not worth it for you. We do about 4 trips a year that range from 3-5 days each and we even stay at the S/D all the time (and they don't take the DDE card), but we still eat at a lot of the WDW restaruants so it's well worth it for us especially when we can meet up with friends.

I called this morning from two different phones-finally got through-just to ask questions. I was told that if i ordered the dde card this week it would show an expiration date of 1/06--But if i ordered the card next week the expiration date would be 2/06--That works for me--I think i will order the card next week since IF WE GET TO GO we'll be going in February.

I had asked if anyone was told this, and no one else said they were, but I just wanted to update in case anyone else was wondering...

I waited until today to call and order it so that it wouldn't expire till the end of Feb. 2006 (if that was indeed the case...) Well, it is! I dealt with Amy, and she said our card(s) will expire February 28, 2006. We probably won't need them past Dec 2005, but JUST IN CASE we had to postpone our trip, I wanted them to expire as far out as possible. Great!!

Thanks so much for the update Liz. This answers a few questions. There were those that were under the impression that all cards no matter when ordered would expire on Jan 31st which just didn't sound right.

I wonder how and when they determine to start offering the cards expiration at the end of the following month? Does it start on the 10th of each month?

You're welcome! Yeah, I have no idea how the expiration dates are organized, I should have asked! I didn't wait on hold AT ALL, so now would be a good time to call and ask questions!!
