New Annual Pass Structure at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The buy a day get the year version of a pass was $95 last year, right? And the most affordable pass (which I believe has similar blackout dates as the "buy a day" version) is now $139, right?

If so they went from $95 to $139 and added The Simpsons and (soon) Harry Potter. On one hand that is a 46% increase which seems like a lot. On the other hand $44 to be able to see those new parts of the parks multiple times might be worth it to some (or a lot) of local families.

I sense the newer passes have many more blackout dates than the old ones did. Here you can see the blackout dates for the Costco passes they sold earlier this year. By my count there were roughly 80 blackout days.

  • 2015 Black-Out Dates: March 30; April 3; June 3-14; 19-21, 27; July 3-4, 6, 10-11, 13-31; August 1-17, 22, 30; September 6, 19, 26; October 3, 8, 15, 24; December 26-31
  • 2016 Black-Out Dates: January 1-2, February 13-14
Contrast with the new lowest tier CA pass (which I've heard has the same blackout calendar as the new Costco pass) which is only VALID for 175 days out of the year (i.e. 191 blackout days!).

Wow, that is quite a difference if there are more than 100 extra blackout days. Thanks for the info. It sounds like they are really expecting more traffic this coming year and hoping to make a lot of money and/or pay off expenses for the expansions. I know for our family (with kids who are still pretty young) we haven't been in years but we're starting to plan for when we will go since they have more new items our kids will want to see.
