New Annual Pass Options and Prices

Can you still get hotel AP discounts with the power pass? just not dining discounts etc?

Power pass is not eligible for hotel discounts.:thumbsup2

The only thing I see is for the FL resident it allows a 10% discount off multi day tickets at the gate (up to 6 people). I don't know if its the same for non FL residents.

Wow, this is news. I just returned and spent Aug. 13 & 14 at US/IOA and stayed at Portofino (had a great time). I can't believe the prices. I renewed our preferred passes in January at the rate of $159 (in 2010 my renewal was $109 for 15 months!), so I'm scared to see what the new renewal rate is. I agree with others, the power pass USE to be available to everyone because that was the first AP we ever had and it use to cost $99 to get it (but weekends blacked out and holidays blacked out, no discounts on parking, hotel, merch. or meals). Pretty much just an admission ticket. We loved it, but we moved up to the preferred the year they had the BOGO. Wow, we don't get discounts like that anymore. (I'm not a florida resident.) Sadly, with increases like this, I fear we may have to let our AP tickets go in 2012.

I recently renewed our Preferred APs and the price was $170.39 each including tax. I think it's worth retaining the AP because of the deep discount versus buying a new one later at full price. The renewal is less than buying a new power pass. We used to carry one Preferred AP and one Power Pass in the old days. We upgraded the Power Pass to a Preferred when they did the 15 month promotion and have stayed with the Preferred APs ever since.

We visit 2-4 times a year so definitely worth the $170 renewal then throw in the the hotel discount and I am still happy. :) Love Disney, but no way can I justify the inital $1,000 cost of 2 WDW APs. We just fit in a Disney day here and there while spending the majority of our time at Universal.

where is rahel when we need her?

she works in ticketing for universal and started the thread.

i was very hopeful she would return and answer the question of the new renewal price for the preferred passes.

In the post above, I gave you the renewal price $170.39 for preferred APs. I just renewed about 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately 2 weeks ago would've been JUST before the price increases on 8/15, so they may have gone up a bit.

thank you Mr Tall...

with the increase on august 15th, we still don't know the increase price of the preferred ap.

Love To Disney, i am away of the new ap price as it increased after you renewed yours.
i did read your post but there were changes to the pricing system after you renewed yours.

Hey sorry I haven't been around to respond. Personal life has kept me from the computer lol. I will try to remember to look up renewal prices tomorrow.

Thanks OP for posting this, slipped in to renew DH's right beforehand :woohoo:

I have the old AAA 7 day park to parks i was planning on upgrading to PAP @ the gates in October. Now considering the Power Pass @ $189.99 for myself & just keep renewing his PAP.

Went to U site and was really suprised the blackout dates weren't more extensive, am I looking at the correct table?:confused3

Not sure what the value will wind up on the old ticket until i get to the gate, had thought in area of $167 plus tax. I'm thinking you probably have to upgrade to a pricier ticket ala WDW methodology.

Upgrades to Power Pass might still work out for those who have tix to upgrade & don't need to travel during July/early Aug @ IOA.:wizard:

Q do you do a renewal on Power Passes or do you just buy a new one each year?

You only get what you paid for the old pass. If it is one of the $99 ones, that 's all you will get.

Yep, US/IOA doesn't "bridge" like Disney does. If they had, my family would've used their 2 day 2 park tickets last week and would've upgraded them to APs. Since I bought them in 2008 during a 50% AP deal and only paid $44 for them, they were not the same price as the current 2 day 2 park tickets.

no fret, disney will catch up and do the same someday.

I think because there is such a big difference in prices between the old passes and the new pricing at Universal, they'd be crazy to do it. Disney tickets really only save you a few bucks when you buy at a discount place.

I tried to go through the renew process online to see if I could find out the renewal prices but the website just brings up an error.

disney has the new program where you can't upgrade your passes if you don't have a day left on them and leave the park that day.

but, universal has had that procedure in place for a long time.
add the extra days before you leave the park on the last day of your ticket.

I called Universal a few months ago and was told they'd upgrade them to an AP (but i didn't specifically ask re Power Pass). They couldn't tell me the value of the 7 day tickets as they didn't sell them anymore and I'd have to wait until we were at the parks. I paid less than $70 each for the handful i bought several years ago.

Do hope to upgrade them for the 'current' value vs what I paid for the tickets, despite them being discounted by my regional AAA, if not i'll survive lol.

I wasn't able to upgrade a tix i bought thru ticketmaster a few years ago that was heavily discounted via affinity organization. It was deemed 'complimentary'.

I'm going to use it one day then try to upgrade it to the power pass @ guest services in October, can't hurt to ask. I'll make sure report back.

fyi, I have no quibble w/U not being able to state what a tix is worth if they don't physically have it in hand. WDW is now the same. i forgot to check what was left on old set of MYW non-expiring tix when we left WDW in July. Wasn't too worried as they were able to help me years ago in same sort of fashion. I emailed the ticket research dept a few weeks ago (with copies of backs of tix, information as to when i bought & used them & how many days I thought I had left), twice, and was told:

Thank you for again contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

where's the pixie dust when u need it? lol

i finally got the answer to my question.......

i talked to a supervisor today and asked what the renewal fee for the preferred annual passes would be.

i was told, the renewal rate is the same. $170.xx something like that.

since the price increased started on august 15th, they are not increasing that ap renewal at this point.

they said as of now, that rate will stay the same as it is.
they increased the renewal rate on march 1st and do not plan at this point to increase it again this soon.

but, i was told, they do not know at what point it will be increased, if that is the case, in the future.

just a heads up:

if you are near your renewal time period for the preferred annual pass, do it soon.

about the 7 day passes for universal........whatever you paid for them is what you will be allowed to use going towards the upgrade of an annual pass.

there is coding on the back of the ticket, which is how they will know the price value of them.
using them one day prior to upgrading them, won't help 'bridge' the value.

check out the 2012 calendar for black out dates for using the power pass for next year.

i am surprised that disney won't work with you by email on the value of your tickets.
but then, they don't want to put something in writing that they will be held accountable for when you do go to guest services for the info.

if you have one day left on the disney passes, you will be able to extend them or use them towards the upgrade.
if you have no days left on them, they won't do anything.

they changed their policies in august.
you can only add days or upgrade as long as you have one valid day ticket left on the passes.

sending you mummy dust you win this game.......
