New and old DVC members start here.... DVCOA Thread

I have not purchased any points since 1996. I guess, I'll always be a recovering DVCer, as when a new resort opens, the add-on bug start nibbling. I have been able to fight those demons so far.

Started with230 points, which was the minimum when Mom and and first purchased in 1992. Then it seemed like every other trip, we were adding on a few points. Once we reached 345 points, we decided enough was enough! But the temptation, I'm afraid, will always be there. Especially if the customer experience ever gets back to pre-pandemic levels.

Had so many pandemic points that I took a group of 11 people, using 2 rooms over Thanksgiving Week, the group was split between a GV and a 2 bedroom lockoff at OKW. Going in June on a guys trip, a friend, who is 66, his 13 yo grandson, and myself at 63, with the 3 of us in a Kidani 1 bedroom, savannah view for a week.

I started 12 years ago using BLT. I thought that I could control it. But I was always looking for my next fix of BLT, and it was never enough. Soon I was moving onto harder stuff…SSR, and eventually VWL. Even worse is you never know what other stuff you might be getting into when you’re using. Earlier this year I was really hurting, so I got myself a fix of SSR, and ended up waking up four days later at Vero.

People that say things like "you are going to Disney AGAIN?" or "there are other places you can go in the world" don't understand Disney.

They should not be trusted. :rotfl2:

I usually point out that for them to visit France, Germany, Japan, Mexico and China will take them weeks of vacation, over $40,000 and a ton of long flights and cranky kids. I can do all those places and more in a single afternoon for a fraction of the cost, and still have dinner at a rootin' tootin' old western dinner show. You tell me who's crazier?

Many people who have never done DVC do not understand the variety offered. They think there is just one DVC. But when you are on a OKW trip, it's NOTHING like taking in a good fix of BLT or AKL.

I've tried to explain to friends or family when I invite them and ask them what kind of trip they want. When you want to relax and chill, there is no better downer than OKW. It's just so.... relaxing. But the vibe you can get hanging out at VWL pools is so vibrant and uplifting. And of course if you really want to get the blood pumping, hanging out at the hotels on the monorail loop with MK only minutes away can be quite exhilarating - especially if you have kids with you.

My name is Ed. I have been a DVC member since '93. I have added on twice. Got more Pixie Dusted than I should of 6 reservations/upgrades and 3 special deliveries due to CMs special treatments. DW and I have gone every year since '93 during the first two weeks in Dec for DW's birthday weekend and holiday season get away. We have taken 29 DCL days, sometimes with multiple staterooms for family to join us, paid with DVC points.
When someone tells me something like, "You are going there again."
What I tell people is:
Whoever pays the piper calls the music.

Addicted to DVC, yes I am and proud of it. With planning, looking, enjoying, and just plan having fun; I ask how can someone not be?
The family vacations we have taken during this time and will continue to take over the rest of our lives are memories that I could never have hoped to have.

My name is Shelly and we have owned since 2013. DH and I got married in 2010 and honeymooned at Yacht Club. This was my first time staying on-site. I loved the BW area! Over the next couple of years we did more trips to WDW, but usually stayed off-site. In 2013 we were introduced to DVC. During our van ride to SSR, our driver told us to make sure to ask about the distressed points for existing resorts (this was coming out of the 2008 recession). Bless that man. We got the sales pitch and asked about BWV points. Yes, they had them. We went and enjoyed our ice cream and then left. We took our literature to our off-site hotel room and discussed it further. We decided we would be fools to not purchase at that price. So we became BWV owners. A couple of years later we learned about resale and became BLT owners. Up until this past year, I was itching to buy more points. But that itch has subsided for now while WDW gets their things in order. I'm sure it will return though. This will give me time to save up more $$ so I can be ready to buy more when the next wave of new DVC resorts hits! :)

👋 I’m new here on Disboards, although I’ve lurked A LOT over the years because there’s so much great info.
My husband and I have been addicted to Disney for a long time. Pre-Covid we visited WDW 4 or 5 times per year. Because of Covid we haven’t seen Mickey since Feb. 2020, but we’re heading down this weekend on Boxing Day - we’re a little apprehensive about it, of course, but we’re triple-vaxxed and stocked up on N99 masks.
We own DVC points at Bdwk and OKW, plus we just closed on BLT this month! (Now we have way more points than we can use, at least until we retire, but we wanted the 11-month window right next door to MK, so we’re happy with the decision 😁.)
I *think* we’re done with add-on-itis for now (?) but we’re definitely open to extending our OKW to 2057, and then adding some more points, *if* DVC offers that option again.
We also have a side-addiction to DCL. Pre-Covid we did at least 1 cruise per year (occasionally 2 back-to-back).

We first bought in 1999 - family of 4 for a week.
Added a few times, most recently at Riviera.
At this stage of our lives, DH or (now adult) DD & I go for 2 weeks in a 1 bdrm every Spring & Fall (we meet up with friends in the Fall). We also give DS & his fiancé 8 nights twice a year. For an extra trip, we may go for a Disney Run, or to see the Christmas decor.
If we don't go the extra time, we just do our usual 4 weeks, & pay for a trip to Europe by renting out some points.
As much as I love traveling, WDW trips are our relaxing, leisurely vacations - almost everything will be there next time so there is no need to rush or stress.
Our European trips are definitely more fascinating, but also require more planning, more detail, & more trying to squeeze more time into every day.
Every one of our trips is special, & each is totally different.
