I am new to this board and interested in some expert advice. We have a large family (5 children combined), so there will be 7 total. I would like to stay in one of the on-site WDW villas.

Which villas to you recommend for our group? We have 3 teenagers and 2 elementary aged girls.

Also, how many points does it take to rent for 5 or 6 nights in early June 2009?

Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

You can check the points charts here

You will need at least a 2BR for that many occupants.

Please see the Rent/Trade Board here at the DIS for info on renting points.

Hope you have a great vacation!

Oh yeah, and my favorite is Boardwalk.

You should take a virtual tour of the resorts. The number of points required varies depending on what resort you may be interested in. Each resort has its own special reasons to book there. I emailed you some information that may be helpful. I hope that you have agreat vacation.

Be sure and read the the [thread=1669863]Considering Renting from a DVC Member?[/thread] thread for other helpful information.

With a group that large, I would consider going with Old Key West Resort. The 2 bedrooms there will have 2 queen sized beds, 1 king bed, and 1 queen sized sleep sofa. Many of the others will ahve only 1 queen bed plus a double sized sofa bed in 1 bedroom and a king bed in the other with a queen sleep sofa in the living room. Also, OKW has much larger units, so the extra space will be nice.

Another alternative is Animal Kingdom Villas where there will be a twin sized sleep chair in the living room along with the queen sized pull out sofa.

Good point. Any other thoughts on the other resorts? How comfortable (generally) are the sleeper sofas?

Old Key West all the way! Central location, huge rooms, low points.
I plugged in a 2br for June 7-13 and it is 211 points. Probably would run in the neighborhood of $2400 give or take a bit. I thought the sleeper was fine at OKW- the kids didn;t mind it a bit.

Anyone know- Will the Kidani rooms also have 3 bathrooms in the 2 br? If so- that would be a big selling point for AKV for the bradybunch2.
Good luck!

Yes, Kidani will have 3 bathrooms, but not Jambo.

Great advice! I will look into renting points for either space. One important reason for staying on site is that our teenagers want the freedom to use the transportation systems to come and go. Are either of these locations (AKV and OKW) preferential in terms of transportation?

Both will be bus dependant to do pretty much anything. Transportation at either can be good or bad - depending on your luck (we've had trips where we've had miserable bus service - and trips where a bus was always pulling up right when we needed it - timing is everything in perception of bus service.) OKW will have larger rooms - and to me, that would be the kicker.

We just got back from AKV and were told that the AK buses make no stops to the parks since it is the farthest resort.

Buses go to all the parks from AKV. That is the only resort we have ever stayed at and there are buses that go to each park, water park, and DTD. There is only one bus stop there (to me that is a plus) but that also means that you only stop to get off the bus and there are no other stops. We have always had good service there, I realize others have had other experiences.

I believe the previous poster meant that the buses make no additional stops on the way to the parks, whereas some of the other resorts - share bus transportation.

Just so I understand - there is no transportation from AKV to the parks? Where do they go?

YES, they have buses to the parks!!! THey just don't make any other stops, so your trip is uninterupted.
