Hi everyone,

I've just started with the pin thing, and I love it! I'm still in the process of learning, and deciding what my special collections/special pins will be. So far, I have 6 Tapestry pins, which are my favorite pins to collect, and I'm still looking for more. A CM had two Tapestry pins to trade with me, and I was ecstatic! They're SO hard to find.
I also think I want to collect Main Street Electrical Parade pins, since I loved that parade.
I don't really understand yet about the valuable pins, so I'm just collecting the pins that are sentimental to me.
I love it that you all have so much knowledge about pin collecting, and you seem to enjoy it so much. So count me in!

One question: I did a search on RSP and strill can't understand exactly how RSP works. Would someone please explain it to me?

Thanks!

To find out more about the "Random Selection Process" follow this link http://psc.disney.go.com/eventservices/rspfaq.pdf (you will need an Adobe Acrobat Reader). It is the RSP FAQ from Disney.

All pins have almost no value (by themselves). As you say, you collect the Tapestry and MSEP pins. Let's say you are able (a few years down the line) to have a seriously large collection of MSEP pins and know there are two from the 1970's that you will need to complete your collection of all of them. At this point the value of those pins to you will be so high that you will be willing to trade your first-born child (or cat) for one of them.

A way to see general relative value is by looking up a pin on www.pinpics.com and seeing how many people are willing to trade it away and compare to the number of people who want it.

I hope these help you.

Welcome to Pin Trading. Using PinPics you can also see how many different pins there are for Main Street Electrical Parade by doing a search to discover them. You can keep track of the ones you have and the ones you need using pinpics as well. Just create a user and once you are logged in each time you are at a pin that you want or have look on the bottom of that pin and you will see that you can either add that pin to your collection to your trades (meaning you have an extra for trade) or to your wants meaning you are looking for that pin.

Have fun and if you have any questions everyone here is always happy to answer them.

Welcome to our world, and the wonderfully pleasurable addiction we call pin collecting!

It's a great hobby that incorporates our love for Disney, with the human tendency to want to collect things, as well as the adventure of a treasure hunt, and the primitive drive to barter!! On top of all that, add the opportunity to meet tons of wonderful, friendly people, and the chance to form many new and long-lasting friendships, and anyone should understand why we're hooked!!

Please feel free to ask us any questions you might have, express concerns, etc. We all love to share, and we all have different perspectives and varying degrees of time/experience in the hobby.

Happy Trading!!

You'll find that your interest in collecting pins that have sentimental value to be a common interest with many pin collectors.

I try to pick up pins that are mementos of each of our WDW family trips -- the resort at which we stayed, the restaurant in which we ate, the first time we rode a new attraction, etc.

The MSEP is a popular pin subject. When you search on Pinpics you will find MSEP pins from both WDW and DLR. When the MSEP left WDW there was a series of three "good-bye" pins. All three are still pretty valuable, but the third of the series is one of the most popular pins of all times:

There were some other MSEP pins released in WDW about six to eight months earlier, very cute, and I think were all light up pins. If you come across any of these, do not be surprised that they no longer light up. :( The battery would be long dead. However, I believe you can change the battery (like a watch battery) fairly easily. Someone here can probably give you some info if you need it. :earsgirl:
