New AKV owner!!!

Thanks, LisaS. The double developer points worked perfectly for us, as we wanted to travel in February.

And the amazing thing is---by my calculations, just with this one visit we'll have earned back half of our initial investment. (We're getting two 2-bedroom villas for either 6 or 7 days).

Of course if I --weren't-- a DVC member, I wouldn't be getting accomodations for my whole extended family, so I suppose if I were being technical about the whole thing, I'd only count the cost of just one 2-bedroom unit...

But I figure you can't really put a price on the fun.

It sounds like a wonderful use of the double developer points! I hope you have a wonderful trip. Welcome home!!

I'm so excited! We had been thinking about joining DVC, but not for a year or two, but the double developer points made it possible for us to plan a really big vacation for extended family, so we decided to go for it now.

We bought two AKV contracts--160pts and 25pts. (I would never have known about the value of small contracts if not for the folks here.) They gave us the double developer points on BOTH contracts. Normally there is a 100-point minimum, but since I was getting both contracts at the same time they made an exception.

We also got a September UY. Officially, there was only March and April available, but our guide called and was able to find something in September, which is good since we will usually travel in Feb and April, and the way I understand it, having a March UY wouldn't be great on the off-chance we had to cancel.

Plus, we were able to get TWO 2-bedroom villas! One value and one savanna view. For President's Week! It all worked out so well! And we will still have plenty of 2008 points to bank for later.

All in all, the whole experience was so easy and non-pressure. We have another timeshare in Mexico that we adore, but the sales staff was so pushy. It was like night and day.

I am new to buying points (am probably going to pull the trigger today). What is the advantage to buying 160+20 vs. 180 in one clump?

Thanks,
Harry

Hi Harry!

First off, the minimum contract size is 25, so if you're going to buy straight from Disney and break it into two contracts, you have to buy 185 (the initial contract has to be at least 160).

I broke it up for flexibility in case I ever want to sell a contract. This way I can sell off only some of my points if I want. Also, the small contracts seem to sell quickly and at a higher per point price.

To be honest, I don't foresee selling either contract, but I figured it pays to think ahead. You never know.

If you decide to go for it, PM me for a referral name if you want. You'd get my guide (Susan Schell) who was very helpful and went out of her way to get me several "exceptions" (dd points on the smaller contract, a different use year). And (truth in advertising here) I'd get a referral bonus.

Best,

Welcome Home...

We're 2 week old DVC members ourselves.

I agree.. it was a great process, very easy (except for finding someone to Not. our Deed)...

We took the money off the contract. Since our use year was March (how did you get September?), figured 300 points wouldn't have worked out well for us.

Our guide said that we could do April, and then I asked her to explain benefits/drawbacks to different use-years, and as she was explaining, she said to me that a fall UY would really work better for us, since we'd be most likely to travel in Feb and Apr. And then she said something like---you know what, I'm going to see if they can make an exception for you. So we hung up and ten minutes later she called back and voila, we had Sept.

All of our add ons have been added to our use year from our first contract - which was September.

Our SSR and AKV points were added as September points - AKV was purchase this past May, SSR on release and VWL many years back.

I thought that it was normal procedure to add them to your current use year.... :confused3
