I know fellow Dis-ers ask about ways to block the loud noises all the time, and the various suggestions are good but often not 100% ideal. I found these at my local grocery store (Meijer) last week while looking for EarPlanes, tried them out at the movies, and was thoroughly impressed! I didn't see kid sizes, but their other products did have adult and kids, so maybe online?
I haven't tried professional in-ears, like musician style custom fit that start in the $100 range, but a roommate I used to have had them and from what I can tell these work very similar, and were $8. I could hear my mom next to me speaking in a normal voice, but it quieted the movies to a point I didn't end up anxious and with a headache.
