I was just on the WDW site and the menu for Kona lists a Chef's favorite 3 course menu for $29.99 at dinner. I had never noticed this before. Is it new?

This is what was listed:

Our Chefs have chosen a few of their favorites
so you can enjoy a truly exceptional
Kona Café experience. Choose one from
each category. 29.99 No Substitutions

Appetizers
Kona Salad
Cucumber Sushi Roll
Shrimp and Coconut
Curry Soup
Pot Stickers

Entrées
Coconut-Almond Chicken
Chicken Pan-Asian Noodles
Shrimp Pan-Asian Noodles
Miso-glazed Mahi Mahi

Desserts
Kilauea Torte
Coconut Cream Kiki Tart
White Chocolate Cheesecake

I saw that when I booked Kona for our first night checking into the Poly. I already know I want the dumplings, chicken pan asian noodles and kileau torte..LOL

I doubt DH will want any of the entrees in that tho, I know he enjoyed the steak and I think he wants to try the shrimp and scallops

Does this menu still count as one credit on the dining plan? I love getting the appetizer included!

Assuming the AllEars menu prices are still correct, those three things, ordered separately, come out to 2 cents less than the 3-course menu fixed price. The "best value" options would save less than $1.50.

So if you're on the DDP, it's a good deal (appetizer included, vs. OOP). OOP, maybe or maybe not.

You can save about $5 over the a la carte pricing if you get the Kona salad ($7.99), Mahi-Mahi ($21.99) and any of those three desserts ($5.49) for a total of $35.47.

However, if you got the soup ($6.99), either chicken item ($16.99) and dessert ($5.49), it's not such a good deal because those items come out to $29.47.

That said, other Disney restaurants have done this before, and I think it's geared to dining plan guests who can get the appetizer with the DDP.

we just ate at Kona Cafe on Saturday May 22. The 3 course option was on the menu, just as listed above. It was available for one TS credit on the DDP...we didn't choose it, though, because we were on the deluxe plan so we were getting apps anyway.

We love Kona and am glad they added the chef's special..we have used this meal deal at Le Cellier, Chef's de France , both using DDP 1 credit, so I am glad to see it at Kona with some of my favorite choices also! Its a must do for xmas trip!

It would be a good deal for me, since I'd want the mahi mahi, and am on the DDP and would've ended up ordering the soup OOP.

It's my opinion that they are putting these fixed-price menus out specifically FOR guests on the basic dining plan (by far the most popular plan), to encourage them to order the less expensive entrees by including an appetizer.

At Le Cellier it actually costs more to order the fixed price menu than it does to order the chicken or gnocchi plus appetizer and dessert separately. If you're paying cash, check the costs before ordering from these fixed-price menus.

I just came to the same conclusion 5 minutes ago! I was able to get hubby a Le Cellier reservation for his birthday next month, and I just did a quick calculation in my head, and saw that the fixed price menu does cost more!

It is good for people on DP though as they can now get an appetizer - good thinking on the part of the restaurants!

Does anyone know if there is a similar 3 course set option for Kona's lunch menu?
