Never thought I’d say this but...

…i’m afraid my family my be outgrowing Beach Club. I really hope it is a one off because it is our favorite resort, even though the recent refresh is a bit meh for my taste.

This year there are 7 of us in a 2BD. Should be ok, right? Usually DH and I take the master because he doesn’t do well sharing a queen bed, but my mom’s husband needed it more needed it more. My daughter decided she didn’t want to share a bed with the au pair, so the 4 of us ended up in the room with 2 queens. Kids won’t share with each other so DH ended up sharing with my 14 year old son and I was with my daughter. Then DS ended up getting food poisoning or a stomach bug, and I ended up sick as well.

Side note: after this experience we will NEVER be in a situation with only 1 bathroom. Even 2 is pushing it.

Going forward, we need more sleeping spaces, so I think we’re going to need a 2BD and a studio with 7 people or a switch to RIV so that we can stay in a 3BD in the Epcot/HS area, especially because the kids are starting to want to bring friends. Unfortunately the 2024 trip is already booked so it may not be possible then, but hopefully we’ll be able to make those changes in 2025 and beyond.

When folks ask us about DVC and how many points - what you're experiencing is something we try to bring up. It's not just a 1BR or a 2BR, it's about sleeping spaces, sleeping areas, and bathrooms! And that all changes over time. Folks who can rent a studio when their son is 5 and daughter 3 and sleep in the same pullout sofa - might see that change after a few years when both want their own bed! Sadly, BCV doesn't have the GVilla to give you more beds. You're right that you'll likely want an extra studio at some point. Enjoy your trip in 2024!

There is a huge difference in points between BCV and RIV- perhaps your mom and her husband would be better served in a studio while your family stays in a two bedroom? Given that illness and crowds can go hand in hand, beds and bathrooms can become really important really fast when on vacation  so I totally understand your concern. It looks like any time of year the RIV Grand Villas' are big points compared to points required for equivalent sleeping/ bathroom spaces at BCV. Just a thought... I am sure a Grand Villa at Riviera would be quite fabulous!

This is such an important topic that many people who have young kids dismiss. Resorts that have 1BDs with 2 bathrooms and 3 sleeping surfaces & 2BDs with 3 bathrooms and 5 sleeping surfaces have much more longevity than the other room configurations.

Sounds like staying with extended family and au pair is the problem. Why not just go with your husband and kids? What you are doing sounds like a nightmare not a vacation.

7 people in a 2BR is a stretch to begin with. The fact that the 7 people are from essentially 3 different families (you and your DH, your mom and her husband, your son and daughter, and finally the au pair) makes it even harder. I think what you really need is a 2BR plus a studio.

Disney is something special between my mom and the kids so going without her isn’t an option. And we think of the au pair like a family member (our kids are older so she isn’t “working”) so leaving her behind would be like ditching a kid at home.

After the next trip we will probably start booking 3BDs or a studio and a 2BD. The problem is that my mom’s husband won’t commit that far in advance and mine won’t be able to go on most of the November trip because of work. If either one or the other comes it should be fine. Also fingers crossed no one has the stomach flu/food poisoning again.
