I was chit chatting with a client that came into our office earlier today. We were talking about summer and vacations, etc. She was telling me about her summer trip she and her husband were going to take and she mentioned that she has never stayed even one night in a hotel before. She said that her husband doesn't see why you would spend money to stay in a hotel when you could stay with a friend, family member or acquaintance. I said that's great that you've got so many close friend and family members that will let you stay at your house. She said that sometimes she doesn't even know the people, but her husband makes the arrangements.

Anyone else out there that hasn't ever stayed at a hotel.

I have stayed in lots of hotels...but I had to post that this is one of the most bizzare things I've heard! I love my husband, but I am not staying with some folks I don't know!:scared1:
He can stay and pick me up at the hotel later!

One of the boys that works in my office is going on a trip for work in a couple of weeks. He casually made the comment that this would be his first time staying in a hotel. He is only 18 and he is the same employee who wanted a burger rather than a steak at our employee Christmas dinner (that was at one of the best steakhouses in town)! He actually cut the loaf of bread that is on each table into slices, put his ribeye on it then added ketchup! I laughed so hard! I think he is just adorable and funny...but green as all get out!

We stay with friends and family when possible, but in hotels far more often. I probably spend 60 nights per year in hotel rooms for work, so I get tired of that sort of thing...

Did they go camping for their honeymoon or stay at his parent's house? LOL!

Wow. How incredibly cheap. I know his friends just love to hear from him. I hate staying with family and when we go to visit the inlaws we always stay in a hotel. It is the only way I will go. :rotfl: My mother, thank goodness, loved to stay in hotels and Daddy worked for Holiday Inn. We stayed at Holiday Inns my whole life on vacations.

We pay to stay at a hotel when visiting family. It's more comfortable for us to have our own downtime in the evening. Plus, sleeping arrangements to host the 4 of us aren't easy for our relatives to accomodate.

I can't imagine asking to stay with casual friends or people you don't even know well at all. :confused3

Yep. When I worked there about 15 years ago, it was a $15.00 employee rate per room/per night for Holiday Inn employees ($25 for Crowne Plaza)! Oh, how it hurt when I left the hotel business!

I would be incredibly uncomfortable staying with someone I didn't know and I'd hate having to work my vacation travels around my friends and families hometowns. It just seems so strange to have never stayed in a hotel.

I have stayed with close friends and family on occasion.
I would not stay with an acquaiantance and I would certainly not stay with someone I didn't know even if my DH did know them.
