Unfortunately at present I am house bound and laid flat out due to a bad back and have been for a week. This eventually got me thinking about next years holidays. As we had 160 points banked into II, I rang member services to see if they had any 1 beds for 2008 half-term (end May). Surprisingly I was offered a week in a 2 bed apartment in Gran Canaries at an Airtours resort. Brilliant...booked it right away and will worry about flights in a few months. i then put the phone down to Member Services thinking job well done.
This however only wetted my DVC appetite. As we are not using any points for the 2007 use year we have about 1,300 points to use in 2008. The family have wanted to do another Disney Cruise for a few years so I got back onto MS and enquired about sailing dates for 2008. Was very pleased to hear they are doing a 'Mexican Riviera' cruise in summer 08 from Los Angeles. This was enough for me and I promptly booked up for the cruise sailing on 3rd August next year. How productive a day have I had
That was yesterday. Today got me thinking about the number of points we own and our needs as a growing family (getting older, not more of us!!). I decided that ideally I would like another 200 points but could only afford 100 right now. Got straight onto Jenna, our vacation guide and discussed merits of adding on more OKW points or going for SSR or the new AK resort. I was surprised that SSR is the best deal of the 3 at price of $91 per point against $92 & $93 respectively at OKW and AK...it also has the lowest annual dues of the 3 and an expiry date of 2054. The extra 100 points also get backdated to June 06 with no annual dues for 2006...brilliant. So my bad back has ended up costing me £4,800 but it hasn't half cheered me up, just be careful if you are imobilised for a while....stay away from the DVC temptation
