My granddaughter got that Password Journal for Christmas and it's obviously defective.. In order for her to get it to open up, it is supposed to respond to "only" her voice and "only" her password..

The young lady that asks for the password has a British accent (and please, no offense to anyone, but she has this terrible nasal, grating British accent that could easily drive a person nuts in about 2 seconds flat)..

Anyhow - we get the batteries in it, turn it on and the voice says:

"Please entah your password.."

"Ally & AJ.."

"Password entahed.." - and the journal opens up.. DGD begins to write something in it and all of a sudden we hear this alarm system go off and the gal starts screeching, "Intrudah..Intrudah...Intrudah..!!" - and the book slams shut on DGD's hand.. Son-in-law flips it over (DGD's hand and all), resets the batteries, gets it to open, gets DGD's hand out and here comes the nasal voice again:

"Please entah your password.."

"Ally & AJ.."

"Please entah your password.."

"Ally & AJ.."

"Please entah your password.."

"ALLY & AJ !!!!!"

"See you latah.............."

Son-in-law flips it over, resets the batteries and the whole scenario starts again.. This time it accepts the password and asks if you want to set the time..

"Yes"

"Intrudah..Intrudah..Intrudah!!!!!" (alarm is going off again)

"See you latah.." (Book slams shut on DGD's hand again..)

The toy is PSYCHO - but we've been having SO much fun with it.. It even kept all of us amused for the 5 hours we were sitting in the ER with her on Monday.. (No - no injuries to her hand - breathing problems from the tonsils/adenoids thing..)

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Does anyone ever check these toys out before they leave the factories??

lol, I want one

PLEASE - PM me your address!!

If I hear "See you latah.." one more time, this British chick is going to find out just how ugly us Americans can get... :teeth:

This easily won the "Most Annoying Gift Received" award last year at Christmas. I remember reading several threads about how hard it was to get the journal to accept a password consistently, but DD wanted one so badly I caved. She has played with it on and off all year, so I guess it wasn't a waste, but boy, do I wish it would get "lost" sometimes!!!

How did you ever get it to work right?

Now my DGD is beginning to mimic the phrases in that nasally, grating voice of the British chick and I don't want to have to rub her out too... :rotfl:

my kids got that from Santa a couple years ago...and YES...it is SOOO annoying!!! It is very touchy with the password and with us, couldn't have ANY background noise whatsoever to record it....and then to say it....drove me nuts...the kids constantly repeating their password and the machine responding. I always made them go to the exact same room they recorded the password in...they don't play with it any more though.

Last night I heard "Intrudah..Intrudah..Intrudah" for about an hour straight before it would let my daughter in...she is getting really mad at it that it calls her an intruder!

My DD's both got them last year for CHristmas
they are now in a Dump somewhere

they never worked right and the girls got so frustrated with them
they just threw them away

my dd has one but there is no mechanism for the thing to shut on it's own-the batteries only operate the sound chip. it does talk as you described, but we have to close the book manualy (there's no spring action on the spine to "slam shut") :confused3

See? That's exactly what I'm talking about! This one has a spring action that slams the book shut - even if your hand happens to be in there.. Last night my son-in-law was messing around with it again.. He put in a password of "cat" - and for a good 15 minutes it would open to the voice of anyone who said:

Cat
Rat
Pat
Hat
Sat
Mat
Fat
Bat
Dat
Gat

Then it started in with the screeching "Intrudah" nonsense again..

When he tried setting the date, every time the voice repeated what he said, it was a year earlier - 2004, 2003, 2002, then decided that "December" was actually "March"..

Somehow I think this thing will be hitting the garbage real soon.. DGD has lost interest in it and her other Grandma that bought it for her didn't save the box so it could be returned..

It's a shame that they charge so much for toys and then can't even manufacture them so that they work properly..

My dd had one not too long ago that we had to take back for the same problem. It never accepted her password! It was a real piece.

DD got one of those this past July for her birthday. It did the same thing to her. It is now sitting in a closet collecting dust. :rotfl:

My mom babysits and one of the kids she watches is an only child. This kid, is spoiled, and always bringing the loudest, most annoying talking toys, which isn't the best thing at 7:15 in the morning. Needless to say several of the toys have "disapeared", or the batteries have "died", and one had an "electrical short" in it.
