;) in August. ( June Through September also). Boy was it hot and sticky. Our trip from August 17 - 28 was really miserable. The Poly was nice, but after going out in the heat for pop and coffee about 6 times the first day, we switched over to concierge for the rest of the trip. Having the lounge available was very nice, but we didn't like the Poly as much as our previous trip to Wilderness Lodge. The GCH just wasn't set up for comfy seating and people watching like WL and it was too much walking from building to building in the heat. We really felt couped up in the room if it was too hot to go out.

We tried early morning hours at the parks, but by 10:00A.M. we were all dripping. One morning, I went out at 6:00A.M and my glasses immediately fogged up. After a few days, we changed game plans. Slept in the mornings (my 11 & 13 YO granddaughters were thrilled with this), Pool all afternoon and hit the parks early evening until closed. That was much better.

It was very busy at the parks and at the Poly. Fast Pass worked great and we loved Philharmagic. We saw Wishes fireworks once at the park and several times from the Poly Lounge, but couldn't always find a seat or hear the music in the lounge.

I didn't get to really enjoy my favorite park though, Animal Kingdom, because they closed at 6:00P.M. when it was finally cooling off. We did manage one morning trip. The kids got to do all of the rides, we took the Safari and Kali rapids ride and watched ITTBAB and FOTLK. By then it was noon and way too hot to walk around and enjoy the animals.

New Solution!!! Just planned another trip for December 5-12 with my 2 sisters. Staying at GF and really looking forward to spending time in that beautiful lounge, and comfortable weather for walking around. In August, we had lunch and dinner at the GF and I knew I'd have to come back with my sisters. They will love it.

Neither of my sisters has ever been to WDW. It's so much fun to take a newbie. This trip will be really different than the August one with my DGDs. Probably won't do much rides, but lots of shows, dinners (one 65th birthday), R&R, and of course Christmas decorations , music, Christmas around the World at Epcot, AK, Osborne Lights, and MK.

i won't do summer again, either. Miserable, simply miserable.

Thanks for sharing your experiences! And yeah on the next trip!!! Christmas is incredible at WDW =)

Our first trip just ended and I'm with you on not going again when it is so hot and humid. I chose September to avoid the crowds - which we did - but hadn't really understood how the humidity would drain my energ as much as crowds would. I know now!

I think having it stay so hot and humid through the night made it worse. We also slept in and didn't try to get to the parks at opening after the first 2 days. We also took an afternoon break each day and I found taking a cool shower and putting on clean clothes definitely improved my mood. My DD didn't seem to be affected by it as much as me but neither of us wanted to each much which helped the food budget but was kind of disappointing after reading so many review of the great snacks and meals.

I'm thinking next time will be in early December so we can enjoy the holiday decorations and smaller crowds. Of course, that will be a couple of years away, at the soonest. I want to wait a bit to return to WDW until my DD will be able to go on all the rides and really enoy the other amenities of staying onsite. Until then, we'll try to get to DLR in the next year or so since almost everything we enjoyed at WDW is available there.

What room were you in at the concierge building? We were there the same time, and my 13 DD was talking to a girl that was there with her grandmother leaving on your day!
What a small world!

we were at Universal on Aug. 31st and MK on Sept. 2nd. Wow. I knew going in what it was going to be like, but I don't think I would like to repeat it again.

Yea, by 10am I was dripping. I'm sure I looked like a drowned rat! Yuck!

It was kind of a spur of the moment trip(well, planned one month before)......like a bonus vacation. That's the only reason we went. The lack of crowds was awesome though. But we've been in Dec. also and the crowds weren't bad then either.

I sure did like the weather better in December. ::yes::

Valdan,

We were in rm 3533. Not the greatest view in the World. My granddaughters were Ginny (13) and Abbie (11). They probably did meet your daughter. I think they met everybody. They lived at the pool and really enjoyed it. I only met one other person when I ventured out to the laundry.

I see that you are from Long Island. My sisters, who I am taking the WDW in December, are from Albany and Schenectady. Neither of them would have survived August :sunny: , but they (and this Minnesotan) will feel right at home with a little chill in the air in December.

I was really nervous about going in August myself, but I dealt with it a lot better than I thought. It looks like I went the same time as you and I didn't find the parks to be overly croweded at all. In fact I didn't wait longer then 30 minutes on the longest line. When I got back home to New York, I thought it was actually hotter then Orlando. I know what you are saying about the heat, but it was my first time in August and I was pleasntly surprised on how I dealt with it.

P.S. Did I mention I went to the parks every day naked.

LOL.

We were there for the same time frame.....8/13-21. We were there at the same time last year, but this year was a killer. I think a lot of the humidity was a result of the hurricanes. It was incredible. We were back in our room by 8 most nights. And we swam every day for at least 1-2 hours. Hadn't done that before. I think that when we get back from our Thanksgiving trip, my dh will refuse to ever go during the summer again!!! But, I did just book a trip in mid-June for my dd and myself.

If you are at a resort with a good pool it will help. Also quick transportation to your resort is a must.

Since going in the summer back in the late 80's, I refused to ever go to Fl in the summer again. It was sooo hot I thought I was going to have a heat stroke.

Now we usually go in Oct. I would go later in the winter but I want to take advantage of the water parks.

but I love to go to WDW in the summer! Yes, it's hot. Yes, there are crowds. But I wouldn't have it any other way. My DH have a "system." We hit the parks in the morning. Then we go back to our resort to swim and chill out. Then we go back out after dinner. It's been working for us for our last 4 or 5 trips. We're going to WDW in a few weeks. It will be our first time going in the Fall. But our next trip is in the making and it's for the end of July through the beginning of August 05. I simply cannot wait for either trip!!!!!!!!

scanne - People think I'm crazy but I'm with you. I love Disney in July. We follow the same game plan as you - getting to the parks early, swim/nap in the afternoon, go back to the parks at night. I think I would really miss the nightly parades and fireworks any other time of the year. We were at GF and HRH this year July 15-26 and we'll be at GF and HRH again July 3-19, 2005 - can't wait.

It's all in your perspective, isn't it?? Waiting 30 minutes for a ride would seem like an eternity for us! When we went Sept. 2nd, we didn't even wait 10 minutes for a ride. We were wondering why they even had fastpass working because we used it for Space Mountain thinking that we would wait in line the first time, then go back and ride it a second time with our fastpasses. It was about 12pm and our fastpass was for 12:15-1:15. I couldn't believe it was that early. But then when we went to ride it, there wasn't any wait. It was just a walk on. Then we went around and walked on again. It was great!

But it's true. You trade the low lines in Sept. for the humidity. Whew..........we were just constantly damp. :p

I'm not a fan of summer in WDW either. I like the fall. :) I found that Feb was almost too cold though, which was just as bad.

But, I'd rather a hot day at WDW than a nice day here. :teeth:

LisaZoe - that new picture of your DD is adorable. She is quite the little princess! princess:

My family was there from Aug 9- Aug 14. I tried to tell DH that it is very hot in FL during August, but he didn't want to listen {what man really ever listens LOL!!!} I have been to FL 3 times when I was a teenager {never to WDW until I was 31 though :( } so I knew all about the heat.

I was surprised that DD made it thorugh the heat, but she was in a stroller which really helped her. But never again!!!

By the counter in my sig we are going to go back in October, hoping that it's ALOT cooler. We would love to go back in Dec, but the in laws would have a fit, especially if something happened and we got stuck there for Christmas. Don't see nothing wrong with that. LOL!!!! Course the last time we were WDW, that's when Charley came. A month before we left for our trip I told a friend just watch and see a Hurricane will come while we are there. Next time I'm going to keep my mouth shut!!!! LOL!!!

I've been going down to WDW at the end of August for the past few years and it doesn't bother me too badly. Being from Long Island, I'm used to heat & humidity. This year, Aug 20-Sep 3, it didn't feel as hot. We always hit the pool in the AM til around 1 or so, shower, hit the parks and have a fabulous dinner somewhere. Its not my favorite time to go, but its easy work wise. I am looking forward to going in October for F&W - warm sunny days and cool nights!

I was at US/IOA the 3rd week of August and yes it was hot but it didn't bother us at all. We are used to the humidity in the summer and even though this summer wasn't that hot here I was prepared for the Florida heat. The weather didn't bother the kids at all and we went from morning to late afternoon before returning for a swim.

We actually had a second summer trip planned but FRANCES took care of that
