Never, ever get a pet...

Oh, so sorry! I know exactly what you're talking about and every time we lose a pet (we've had three elderly cats die in the past) I tell myself that I'm never getting another pet because I can't stand the hurt that goes along with losing them. Of course I do get more pets--either I love animals a lot or I'm a very slow learner. I currently have an older dog (12-13yo?--don't know, we got him as an adult dog), a 4yo dog, 2 5yo cats and 2 half grown kittens. As sad as I'll be when they get old and die, I know that they are wonderful companions now.

It sure does hurt to lose them, though!

Don't remember the last moments, but the lifetime memories of puppy kisses, playful romping and unquestionable love.

:paw:

So sorry for your loss.

It hurts but you are not alone. I have had to put down 4 pets in my life and it hurt every time. 2 were put down young because of cancer and the other 2 because of old age. It hurt a lot. But I still take out pictures from time to time and remember them. My one cat had such a great attitude that we still tell stories about him. (and he passed on about 15 years ago)

Remember all the good times you had with your kitty. And there is nothing wrong with crying.

Oh, I am so so sorry. I know what you are saying, but I believe the LOVE we share with our animals is worth the pain...just as the love we share with humans is worth the grief when we lose them. It's all about the amazing LOVE.

Hugs to you.

 So sorry. My oldest dog passed away Sunday, so I know what you are going through :sad1:

I am so sorry. I know how you feel, just one year ago this Friday I had to put my cat, Charlie to sleep. :(

:grouphug:

It hurts like H*** when we have to say good-bye, but the memories they gave us will last a lifetime.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know from experience there is no pain in the world like losing a pet.

I heard once that the reason it's so difficult to lose pets is because our emotions with them are not as broad as they are with other humans. It is all unconditional love. You don't feel alot of anger, they don't hurt you emotionally etc. I found comfort in that.

because they give us so much unconditional love during their time with us. :dog2:

That's so true. I said I would never get another dog after my first one died when I was a teenager. Now here I am with two. I dread when that day comes. :grouphug: to the op.

I hear you. I had to put my kitty Athena asleep Saturday. She was 9 1/2 years old and had cancer and in pain...I still have 3 dogs, but it's hard losing a great pet.

I always think of how empty my life would be without my little fur buddies - know that you were a good pet parent and gave them a life free of fear, hunger, cold and they enriched your life with their selfless devotion.

I've heard that yowl, it's a horrible sound. I'm sorry for your loss. :sad1:

I'm so sorry Karen. And to everyone else who has recently lost a precious fur baby. :( They add so much to our lives, don't they? Saying goodbye is the worst. :sad1:

My condolences on the loss of your pet. Know that you did the kindest thing for your animal. I firmly believe there is an afterlife for animals--and your furbaby is smiling and playing and missing you, too... :flower:

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope that your cat is looking down from the Rainbow Bridge.

I am so sorry for your loss. Maybe this poem will help you as you grieve. :rose:

Lend Me A Kitten

I will lend to you for a while a kitten, God said.
For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he's dead.

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, 'till I call him back, take care of him for me?

He'll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief,
you'll always have his memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below that I want him to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowds life's land I have chosen you.

Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take my kitten home again?

And in my heart I replied, "My Lord, Thy Will Be Done."
For all the joys this kitten brings, the risk of grief I'll run.

We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.

But should you call him back much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.

If by our love we've managed your wishes to achieve,
in memory of its sweet love, please help us while we grieve.

And when our cherished kitten departs this world of strife,
Please send us yet another one to love for all its life.

I'm sitting at my computer crying - this poem was beautiful. Three years ago I lost a 2yr old kitten due to an enlarged heart, and I still miss him. We've opened our home/hearts to two more kittens who are our babies. They become so much like family that it's unbearable when they leave.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is a very difficult time for all pet lovers. We will be going through this soon. Our little westie has cancer and it is just a matter of time for her. I keep saying I will never get another dog so I can understand how you feel. Take care.

Im so sorry to hear of your loss of your beloved pet.

Two years ago we had to put our dog of 15 years to sleep--the hardest thing we ever had to do.

She had trouble with her back legs they were so stiff at times she could hardly move--she didnt have much of a quality of life anymore--her life consists of sleeping on the couch--she somehow always had the strenght to climb on the couch--every few hours we get her off the couch and send her outside--she was never out long only to go back to her favorite spot.

On a really good day sometimes she would play with the cat :sunny:

I posted here and a super DIS'er PM'ed a poem about pets it wasnt the kitten one but just as fitting--when I find it I'll post it

things do get better with time you might not think so now but they do

I am so sorry for your loss. They are members of the family and it hurts just the same. You never forget them - they are always in hour heart. A piece of my heart went to heaven with my fur baby. Even though it will be three years in April I still miss him every day.

I am so sorry. I lost my kitty, Micah, last year in February and it was heartbreaking.
