Now, I don't know if I can post links, but loving Photography I thought I would share this find. Pretty amazing pictures. Just no Disney - i doubt.

"Culled from the Municipal Archives collection of more than 2.2 million images going back to the mid-1800s, the 870,000 photographs feature all manner of city oversight -- from stately ports and bridges to grisly gangland killings."

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...go-tell-vivid-story-gritty-New-York-City.html is a link with pictures that are up. The New Yord website at http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/gallery/home.shtml is down so many people are looking at them.

Thanks for sharing. Just started on the link and it was very interesting.

The photograph posted is Eugene De Salignac. He shot in the early 1900's and worked for the city. He's one of those people that photographed things for purpose, not art... there were a lot of them back then because many people didn't consider photography art at the time. It was just a tool to record things. I tend to wonder what he was thinking when he did his job. Did he think about making a great photograph or was it not a conscious effort on his part?

I haven't been able to view it. This is what I get when I click on the Enter Gallery HERE link:

Due to overwhelming demand, the New York City Municipal Archives Online Gallery is unavailable at present. Maintenance activities are underway to address this issue.
