Hi I have never been to disney. I will be in Florida for three days, staying off property, at the Sheraton Studio City hotel, near Univeral. My question is should I go to disney or universal? I'm not a big ride person, what I want to do is chill by a pool, go to a spa, see the fireworks and perhaps see the cirque de solie show. I'm also interested in going to the outlets if there is a coach store there. I'm thinking that I should to disney, because I've never been... But I am 37 years old and going alone. Any advice would be appreicated.

Thanks

If you're not a "ride" person (and I'm not much of a ride person myself), I vote for Disney! Lots of beautiful things to see and do without going on rides.. :)

Hi rlrtaw -

Welcome to the DIS!!
Will you have transportation? Does the hotel run a shuttle service to either Universal or Disney?
The 'Orlando Premium Outlets" has a Coach store- in fact I have one of their purses in my closet right now!

Cirque du Soliel is at Downtown Disney.... you'd need transportation to get there. A hotel shuttle would be a good thing. If you have plenty of time before you go and want to book a ticket for the show, here's a link: http://www.allearsnet.com/btp/cirq.htm

And here's a link to Orlando Premium Outlets: http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=17

I hope that this helps......

Well, I'm not the best person to answer, because I've never been to Universal, but having done Disney many times, I can definitely say there is ALOT to do at WDW that doesn't require riding anything. In fact, even if you tried, you couldn't do all the non-ride things at Disney in one trip.;)

Welcome to the Dis:sunny: As you might imagine, there is a distinct bias for WDW here(the board isn't called "The Uni";) )

I've always felt that one of the strengths of WDW is the connection to the themes and stories of classic Disney movies and tv shows. If you have a "bond" with that material, you will love WDW. I have never been to Universal, but my sense is that they have a great selection of thrill rides, without the connectivity.

In any case, welcome, and let us know how we can help:earsboy:

If you want an UNbiased opinion on whether Disney or Universal, you've come to the wrong place:teeth: I vote for Disney!

Woo hoo!!! Great stuff. How can I get a hopper pass for one day? I am really there two nights, three days, but arrive around 6pm on a Monday, have all day tuesday, and my meirs traportation is picking me up at 4pm on wednesday.

It's extremely rare to find a one day hopper - read: almost impossible.

If you want to spend the money, I would recommend a day at EPCOT. It's the most 'adult' of all the parks, there's lots to do, great food and super nighttime fireworks. The World Showcase lagoon is nice to walk around and there lots of 'different' entertainment.

Are you renting a car? That's a biggie. You could also wander around Downtown Disney and see Cirque.

I suggest that you also post this question over on the Universal forums and get some opinions from people who know Universal. Most of them have experience at both Disney and Universal and will be able to offer perspective on both.

On our trip 2 weeks ago I did both Disney and Universal. I am a ride person. I think Disney is the greatest BUT if you only really have one day to tour - go to Universal Studios (not Islands of Adventure) and walk around City Walk. I just don't think one day does Disney any justice. Plus you are staying by Universal. Come back and do Disney when you have more time to appreciate it all.
