I will never ever stay somewhere where I have to ride a shuttle again! It sucks especially when you have a stroller. Not worth the money I saved.

Where did you stay and how much did you pay?

We are at the red lion right now. It's ok, it was 62 a night. I do have a toddler which is making it more difficult.

Visit WDW to gain a new prospective on buses :lmao:

No kidding! But, because the parks are so spread out, you end up on a bus no matter where you stay, if you want to use WDW transportation to see all of the parks.

We are planning our first DLR family trip in early November, after having visited WDW the last 2 falls. We love WDW, but we are sure looking forward to having a short walk to the parks, which is something you will not have at WDW.

I swore off of shuttles long before we even had children! :rotfl: Everyone crowding on the one shuttle and not making it and having to wait for the next. I always said there was no way I'd try to do that with kids. Now we either drive to parks or better yet stay at CCI and walk. They have a great shuttle, but if it doesn't work out time-wise, we aren't stuck waiting. :thumbsup2

I have to say buses are the part that worries me most about going to WDW. I've been trying to figure out where to stay with the least amount of bus traveling.

Ugh. Are you using the ART system? We had mixed results with it the last time I stayed beyond walking distance in 2008.

Staying at one of the resorts surrounding the Magic Kingdom - Grand Floridian, Polynesian or Contemporary - are good because you can take the monorail to both Magic Kingdom and Epcot. I'm not a big fan of buses either and the walk from the parks to the bus stops sure don't feel short after a long day in the parks.:goodvibes

Thanks, I will look into those. :thumbsup2 Probably Poly or Contemporary.

We did it once with with the shuttle. Never again with us too. We did it with an infant and a toddler and two strollers. It was awful. Have always stayed on property since then.

Guess I have another believer in HydroGuy's Hotel Rule: :rolleyes1

"HydroGuy's Hotel Rule" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1199862

Rule

Get a nearby hotel within easy walking distance

Who This Rule Affects

Multi-Day visitors, and Day visitors who must drive a long way and need a hotel

Explanation

After spending oodles of money to visit DLR, why waste time getting back and forth to the parks? And why make it harder to take an afternoon hotel break?

DLR has three resort hotels and numerous good neighbor hotels within easy walking distance to the park gates (5-15 minute walk). If you are getting a hotel, why not stay at one of these?

If you stay at a nearby hotel, you never have to wait for a bus or take time to get back and forth to your car. You just take a short walk. This will help you spend more time at the parks and keep you fresher. It will also help ensure you will get there for park opening which is essential if you want to experience more rides.

On my last trip to DLR I sat with a family on a Grizzly River Run raft who were visiting DLR for three days from Arizona. They chose a Marriott hotel about 1.5 miles from DLR. They decided to use the ART system (www.rideart.org ) for transportation. They told me on the previous two mornings they had had to wait over an hour for a bus to DLR. What a shame to waste this much time they could have spent inside the parks with their children – all because of a poor hotel choice.

I am a believer!
Stayed at the BWPPI last month and had the trip of a lifetime!

Not the fanciest or the cheapest but the closest and imo - the BEST

Yup, I am a huge fan of HydroGuy's rules. Reading all of them helped make our trip AWESOME and since I made 14 trips (7 round trips) from the hotel to DLR and back, you can bet I was thrilled to have a short 5-8 minute walk!

Some people consider Red Lion walking distance; it's kind of on the edge. I've walked from about that far before.

You've tried the Toy Story lot shuttles by the Red Lion, right? IDK how they are with strollers but at least there should be a lot of them. :confused3

Hope the rest of your trip goes well!

I've done one shuttle trip and one stroller trip and I will never, ever combine the two. Sorry you have transport woes.

Too me it is not worth the hassle, I stay as close as I can get.
