NEVER again in July!!!

We just got back - were there July 6-13 and didn't think it was bad at all. We avoided the EMH parks, used FP's wisely and did everything we wanted to do. We did the standby lines many times when they were 20 minutes or less. Yes, it was hot some days, but then you duck into an air conditioned attraction. The remnants of Dennis really helped us out a lot. We did AK on Sunday and it was perfect - cloudy with a breeze. We had a few drops of rain, but that's all. Practically walked on to the safari. I had PS's, but showed up early for a couple of them with no problem. We also were able to eat very easily at ESPN, Big River Grille, Trail's End, Earl of Sandwich and Flame Tree BBQ. I would go in July again. We had a blast.

Make no mistake...June and July are most certainly doable! With planning and foreknowledge of the heat/humidity, you can have a terrific trip to WDW. It's just that I was really spoiled by the weather in late Oct. Sure, the parks close earlier then. But, that's the trade-off. I did do an EMH one evening in MK. When 1:00 a.m. rolled around, I asked my dd if we could go back our resort yet. She so wanted to be in MK really, really late. And so she did.

So, those of you who go in June/July/August....it will be hot, it will be really sticky, and it will be crowded. But, the parks are open later, the pools are terrific to cool off in and you don't need jackets and/or mittens, as we did in mid-Dec. Now, that....is an un-natural act if you ask me....jackets and mittens in Florida!!!

Okay, so it is hot and humid. If it was so bad and brutal to go in the summer, why are the parks so crowded? :confused3 :confused3

How are just the resorts?

We go often but rarely get to spend the time at the resorts that we really want to. We're thinking of going next summer for an extended weekend and not doing the parks at all. Just swimming at the resort, DTD, Cirque de Soleil, etc. We've never gone during the summer, primarily because we've always had a season pass with the summer black out dates.

Between August and July there *is* a difference...at least that's been my experience. It was just as hot in Aug and July, sure...but that's okay 'cause there are plenty of spots to cool off in.

And even though we had a great time last July...and yes, we did get to do everything we wanted to....I wouldn't go back during that time again.

I would rate each summer month as follows (with the first being the best)...1) Aug 2) June and 3) July.

But that's just me. :)

I only went during the summer as a kid, and this year I went with DH and friends in March-- We'll NEVER go in the summer again! Of course it's WDW so you'll have fun-- but in the summer it's just so darn hot and humid you can't do everything you want to. When we went the 1st week in March, it was chilly in the AM and at night, but perfect during the day- low 80's. It only rained one day. We never used FP, and didn't wait more than 20 minutes on line for anything. I couldn't believe it-- we did almost all of MK in less than 1 full day! We're going again next May, I hope it's just as good as March!!

kbkids....we just got back, we always go in July, and never wait in lines, but forget the pools! The water is too warm, unless you swim at night.

If you are going for the resorts, and swim, you may want to try alot earlier.

We were at both AKL and Swan, and both pools were equally warm. We lasted about 30min at both . Of course, we also had no rain, which tends to cool off the water a little..

In the past July's that we have gone, I don't remember the water being so bad you didn't want to get in like it was this time.

I hate cold water, so if it was too warm for me, it really was too warm

The resort was GREAT! We had so much fun in the pool!!

Because the kids are out of school I would assume!!!

Like I said I go usually at off times and never wait more then 20 minutes!! on Wensday Soarin was a 170 min wait!!!!!!!!! what the heck?!??!!
I live in Florida South Florida and I am use to the heat but the crowds were horrible~!!!!

I went there 6/25-7/4 and was able to get on every ride that I wanted to with minimal waits (15 min) or no wait at all by avoiding EMH days and with Tour Guide Mike's advice. We came into the parks when they opened, were out of the parks by 1-2pm for an afternoon nap so we missed the hottest part of the day and we returned later in the evening. It worked wonderfully! Don't get me wrong the heat was crazy but it was bearable by avoiding the afternoon sun. That said, my next trip will be in the off peak season b/c I want to be able to enjoy the magic w/o all the crowds. :flower:

Hey Marcbelt - Thanks for the tip about getting a FP for Lights, Motors, Action right away. Didn't realize we could go and get another FP right away for a different attraction. We'll definitely do this. :flower:

I've been wanting to ask this for a while....

Can someone please explain to me how one person can go to WDW during a peak month and have to wait over an hour for most rides while someone else never waits more than 15 minutes? I've read UG cover to cover (get to the parks early, get a FP for one ride then run to the next popular ride, etc.) but unless you leave the park after a few hours, don't you inevitably end up waiting in a decently long line for a few rides? I'm confused

Does Tourguidemike make a big difference?

Thanks! :earsgirl:

Hey We are having the same weather in the Poconos this year! 90+ 100% humidity....and no Mickey Mouse anywhere!

Dory, yes tour guide mike is the reason why we were able to do everything we wanted to. This was our first trip to WDW so we pretty much got on everything worth doing. He is worth every penny! I was able to do everything I wanted except for Test Track (darn thing broke down) and Beauty and the Beast. It's a matter of getting there when the park opens and knowing where to go and how to use FP.

When you do TGM how many days does he recommend for lets say MK? Does his plan limit running back and forth across the park or is it systematic in the way ou cross the park picking up attractions? Thats how i tried it and we only had one day at MK. I knew which rides I wanted to ride since I knew we'd never make it to all of them...unfotunately they were the oes EVEYBODY wanted and therefore we spent most of the day in line and never really got anywhere.

Hey - I live in Florida - I know exactly what you're talking about. The warm water really doesn't bother us - I guess cause we're used to it. This is from the gal who won't get in a pool until late May, and I'm done in mid October. :)

We did MK in 2 days but TGM serves as a tool to plan a vacation that fits your needs, so if you have only 1 day for MK he has great tips to make you get the best out of it. He gives you the advice and you tailor it to fit your needs.

wow. I leave in a week and I was worried about how the heat would be.
We went last August for the 1st time, and IT WAS SOOO HUMID AND MUGGY. I was definitely NOT prepared.

I plan on bringing neck cooler, My Mickey Spray Fan and SPEND time at the pool.

I am sorry that you had a bad trip but I believe some of it could have been eliminated. I have been several times in July and have experienced the heat and the crowds but I have been able to do everything that I wanted. It can be tough and tedious but it can be done. My first preference is to get a park hopper pass. That helps a lot.

I went in July two summers ago and we won't go again - there is no reason for us to, and I'm absolutely MISERABLE in that heat all day.

We've found the first of May to be great, October to be great, first of December. when the weather is better, I'm better ;)
