Nevada DVC Owners

Before DVC, I would only plan a few months in advance. After DVC, I plan over a year in advance so I can figure out my 11-month booking window :)
That makes sense. After DVC I didn't really change how I planned for WDW since is it more a commitment going from Vegas, whereas I can just jump in a car to go to DL. We may have to change how we view DL, always just looked at it as a weekend trip.

Getting into DVC definitely changed the way I look at some of my trips to Cali and Disneyland, but not all of them and overall has made it way better. We just ended a 7 night stay at VGC and we have another trip at the end of May already planned, but this will be at a budget place on Harbor for a split Disneyland and Knotts/Soak City trip. I'm still a really new member but this is how I see my DVC ownership working over the next 5 to 10 years -

WDW Trips -
  • Planned Well in advance. Book home resorts 11 months out, modify to other resorts at 7 months if wanted/able.
  • Go for 10 to 13 nights every or sometimes every other year.
  • Trips will usually bring family/friends together for some fun (booking multiple rooms)
  • Likely go more often once we get closer to retirement with less people.
Disneyland Resort Trips (and 3rd gate - Knott's)-
  • Two types of trips. Slightly longer and more important/fancy trips and short/budget trips.
  • Fancy/important trips will use DVC, will be booked 11 months out.
  • Less fancy trips will be booked using hotwire/Expedia/etc. (credit card points?) and will try and mix value/budget into this mix. Fill in the gaps where we don't have enough DVC points or want another option.
    • A huge win option - booking Knott's Berry Farm hotel for a little over 100 a night using hotwire.
  • Wildcard - booking over additional stays with WDW points (either VDH or VGC). Wont structure the year with this planned, but will take wins as they come up.
Other Resorts - we want to go to all of the DVC resorts at least once over the next 18 or so years. Worried they will not renew HH or Vero as a DVC resort so have to get those done before. Aulani will definitely be a must do every few years for us.

Another Vegas family here. We've been owners since 2017. For us, this location offers great access to all the major DVC offerings. It's a 5 hour flight east to WDW. A 5 hour flight west to Aulani, and a 5 hour drive to DL.

We're going to start the summer with a trip to Aulani, end the summer with a trip to WDW, and then start the fall with a long weekend trip to DL for Oogie Boogie Bash. Aulani and DL (VGC) were booked 11 months out. WDW was originally booked 11 months out for Christmas break, but moved to end of summer around 6 months out, and I even made a tweak to the reservation just a week or so ago.

I've managed to hold out from buying into VDH for a week now, but my resolve is quickly crumbling. I'll probably pick up a 50 point contract which is perfect for 3 nights during the low season.

So... my Silver State amigos. Anyone else get or tempted to get some VDH points?
I had enough interest to look at it to see what it would be. Cannot justify the cost. And for initial member offer it's about the poorest I recall. I also suspect it will be possible to book studios at 7 months but we'll see how that ends up - may be wrong about that. But I own VGC, have qualified points and am currently visiting WDW more for various reasons.

Hello everyone! Reno family here. Lived in Henderson for a stretch as well. Own at VGC as well as BLT and just added on at VDH! Excited to see it open. Try to get to DL regularly and WDW at least every other year. DL is just so much closer.

Northern Nevada here. Dayton/Carson City. Grew up in Tonopah. School at UNLV.

Own resale and direct (200 each) at AKL. Was going to buy at DVH, but TOT and dues pushed me to buy the direct at AKL.
