Neurologist's recommendations for getting DD to sleep...

Christine said:
I swear, he would have done well in one of the families where there were lots of kids and they all shared rooms. He would have loved that. He has told me that when he was younger, about 4 or 5, that he used to have terrible dreams. I never knew this at the time--but he has told me that. He still thinks about those dreams and, even at 11, he worries about monsters in his closet.

I think this is what saved me as a kid...I always had someone to sleep with when I was scared. I slept with my brother Jack until my Mom told me I wasn't allowed to sleep with my brothers anymore.......I think some kids are just more naturally scared than others. I still am a scaredy cat when it comes to sleep and the dark! :earseek:

I think it's Sensory Integration Disorder. Don't take her to a neurologist. Take her to an Occupational Therapist.

I sent you a PM.

I'm blessed with good sleepers, but totally empathize with the total exhaustion of not getting good consistent sleep.

If you find that the regular house noise is part of what comforts your DD you might look for baby monitors on ebay or at a garage sale. Put the sound receiver in DDs room and the other piece in your room or your living room. That way she still hears the famly noise but is in her own space. DH and I sleep with white noise and often I fall asleep to TV so that is what my kids would hear if we needed to do that. Just remember that it is there!

If you do find that the sounds of the living room help comfort your DD you might try putting a baby monitor in there, and the receiver in her room. If possible, you can do a "fresh start" on her room and let her arrange it how she wants, maybe some new sheets or a blanket and then add the receiver so she can hear the normal noise she falls asleep to. That combined with some of the other comfort suggestions may help.
