Netflix "very long wait"- how long?

I just joined Netflix last month, and it seems like every movie I really want to see right now is listed as "very long wait." Anyone else use Netflix and run into this problem? Just how long is the "very long wait"?

Also, I just started to use the "save" feature for movies that aren't released yet- does this get you a shorter wait on stuff? By a lot?

Mine said that, and then I got the disc the next week, so it is hard to say.

It doesn't give you a shorter wait time if you save it. The save feature is just a nice way to remind you of movies you are interested in.

Long wait can mean anything. I had a long wait for a couple of movies and got them within a week or 2. Then again Shaun of the Dead is still showing a long wait (released 12/21) as is King Arthur (released 12/21) and Wimbledon (released 12/28). A lot of it depends on how fast the people with those movies return them

I've had that too and then they've still sent the movie.

I know Garden State was at a "very long wait" for a few weeks (but like I said, I still got it when it came up in my queue.

A friend who has used Netflix for a long time told me to try to time it so you have a return processed on the day of the new release and you can usually get it right away.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that. I've been moving some down in the Q that show a long wait, so now I know just to leave them there.

I just signed up for them as well. None of mine say very long wait. I do also have a membership on blockbuster.com but most of my very long waits (black and white mickey mouse) are toward the bottom. What I am wondering is the ones that the availability is unknown when they might get these. The three I am looking for is Snow white, Blues Brotheres (original), and The Jungle Book.

We have 'very long wait' on a couple in our queue almost always, but it varies in how long it will be, depending upon how long people keep the movie. Most of the time, we receive it within a week or two. Just depends on the people who have them now.

Also, netflix, and probably others, keep track of home many movies you have taken out recently. So, if you take out very few movies, you are bumped up in the list for popular movies. This history gets knocked down a bit when your month starts again. I've seen movies jump from very long wait to short/mailed the day after my CC is charged.

Yes, I have read about this, and it is called throttling. Another Netflix post showed this and I searched about that topic.

Lower renters tend to get movies faster than higher volume renters since Netflix is "losing" money on the high volume renters.

I have four movies that are listed very long wait, and I put them in the end of my queue. Now that I know its only approximately a week, I can put them back near the top.

Darn I guess I need to slow my return rate down a bit.... :moped: I thought the faster you send them back the faster you got 3 more.

I always leave the very long wait(s) at the top as well as the new releases. My thinking is that if the timing is right at the distribution center, I will get the next one - regardless of the listed availability.

I know there has been a lot of negative things about Netflixs lately here on the boards. Fortunately, I haven't noticed a change. I returned a movie on Saturday, it was received today and a new ones being shipped out today. I've had Garden State at the top of my queue for a couple weeks now. To me, it's not a big deal when I see it, I know I will eventually. In the last couple of weeks, we've had Princess Diaries 2 (which was listed as a very long wait, yet shipped the next time I returned a movie) and The Forgotten (which also had a very long wait).

Maybe I'm just lucky and have yet to run into a problem. I hope the problems others are having are just temporary. I know it's frustrating.

I have never had a "very long wait" I have had a few "short waits" but those usually change to nows in a few days. Also I agree with the above poster about moving the waits to the bottom. Leave them at the top that way if they get one in you will be more likely to get it. If it is at the bottom of your list you may never get them.
