Netflix Users, have you ever had this happen? **UPDATE**

We've been with Netflix for over three years now. Never had any real problem. Once or twice in that time a DVD has been lost in the mail, but that'll happen. I'm not quite sure why everyone's complaining. They're not sending DVDs out next day, just as you're not sending them out next-day. The mail isn't a perfect system. To be totally honest, the constant comments about Netflix's lack of service have been annoying me lately. If anything, lately we've been receiving movies a whole lot quicker than in the past.

Sorry to rant, but I've wanted to do this for the past couple days and I figured now's as good a time as any.

RyMickey, we've been with Netflix for at least 2 years. I don't have problems with mail service, we are less than 5 miles from the distribution center. I've been very happy, often able to turn movies around in the same week. What I've started seeing is that my movies get checked in but the movies are delayed by them for a day. It will say they are shipping today then at the end of the day say they are shipping the next day. This is a decrease in service, if it happened a few times I wouldn't have minded but it's happening at least once a week. Looks like a trend to me and I don't like it, I expect the service they offered in the past. The distribution center you use might not be having these problems but from the posts here I don't think mine is the only one that is.

My turn around time has not changed. I don't think they are intentionally doing this, if they are at all. It would be a HUGE PR hit if it proved to be true.

I love Netflix....

Why am I complaining? Because the turnaround time for us to send movies back and get a replacement has more than doubled. This means that we are getting less than half the number of movies in a month than we used to.

I started an experiment yesterday. I joined the Blockbuster service for the month. I mailed one Blockbuster and one Netflix movie from my house yesterday morning. Blockbuster notified me of receipt this afternoon and have mailed my next movie. By the way they shipped me The Village which is listed as a Very Long Wait in my Netflix Queue even though I added it way back when it was in Theatres.

Given their current trends, I most likely will not get that notification from Netflix until Friday, and they probably won't mail the next movie until Monday because they do not work on Saturday. I think you can see where this is leading, but I probably won't be keeping Netflix. And yes, I have been a Netflix Customer for well over a year. 3 months ago, I was one of their biggest fans. I can always restart the service if people start to see improvement.

I think turn around time is much quicker now for me too from when I was a member 2 years ago. I always send 3 movies back on monday and get 3 more on Weds or Thursday depending on the weather. I watch on weekends anyway, so as long as I have them by Friday, I am happy.

I think teh service is much better than in years past. It could be that some of you have distribution centers that have a lot of new members so it it slowing them down.

Why am I complaining? Because the service I pay for has been declining. Because except for the occasional bone they throw me (like Sky Captain), I average 4-6wks wait for new movies. Because they state specifically on their FAQ that they ship the next business day and it doesn't always happen. Because it doesn't take 8 days to send a movie 50 miles and that's not because of mail issues - netflix rescheduled my arrival date which tells me they delayed mailing the movie to me or they are using a different distribution center.

It's our right as consumers to complain when we feel we are not getting what we pay for. I don't frankly care if you approve of it our not. Right now they are on the verge of losing dedicated customers, including myself.

ETA- LoraJ I think you are correct about the increase in members. New England only has 2 distribution centers and I know there has been a large increase of local subscribers. They really need to open more centers.

Okay, I think it just happened to me.

They received my return yesterday. I just got notice that my new DVD is being shipped today and the expected delivery date is Monday. Never, never, never have I waited that long to receive a movie. If they mail it today, normally I will receive it the next day. Very rarely even two days later.

This is a first for me. I have read the threads here and wondered why I wasn't having any problems. :confused3

If I don't receive the new one by Friday, I will know they held onto it and mailed it later. If that happens, I will certainly be expressing my displeasure.

Usually if the date they expect you to receive it is further out it is coming from a different distribution center. That is something they've always done.

Is there a way to tell where the DVD came from? My distribution center is located 2 towns over. The return address I have on the DVD's we now have is in California. The return address is the one close to us. I'm just curious to see if this might be the case.

I mean, don't get me wrong. You can complain all you want. We have yet to experience any problems with service. I've just been getting irritated at reading complaint after complaint. Like I said, we've been experiencing quicker service. The one single complaint that I could state is that several new movies are listed as "very long wait," but there's so many movies in our queue, that it's nothing that I worry about.

Hey, all I can say is (and not trying to sound callous or mean here) that if people aren't happy, maybe switching over to Blockbuster will help lessen the "very long waits" that I'm experiencing.

I agree with Papa Deuce...I love Netflix.

I love Netflix too, but put me in the "slower turn around time" crowd.

We used to send a movie out Monday and get a replacement Wednesday. Now, turn around is not as quick.

I suppose it could be that certain movies are coming from different areas or the center in my area is getting busier, but it is disappointing.

We sent movies out Thursday, Friday, and Saturday last week. They sent three replacements yesterday. If I stagger the movies when I ship them out, technically, they should be staggered in their replacement. I am not talking about "very long wait" DVDs either. We have a LOT in our queue. Plenty to chose from.
