We've had netflix for a few years and love it. We're on the 8.99/month plan and 1 DVD out at a time. What makes it worth it to us is the instant streaming. We use the Roku box and now i'm in love with the iphone app. Makes those gym workouts much more entertaining now. I actually cancelled cable a year ago and haven't missed it at all. Kids can still get their Disney/nick TV shows through netflix so everyone's happy.

How does watching tv shows work? I'm assuming you have to watch last seasons shows that are on DVD. I can not get DH to get rid of our dish for anything even though everything we watch is DVR'd anyway! I'm fine with watching last seasons shows but he's not. I'm really hoping someone comes up with a way to get the new shows to rent sooner. I know you can usually watch most of them online but he hates doing this for some reason! And we even have the tv hooked up to the computer so you can watch in on the tv and there are usually fewer/no commercials!! UGH!!!

You add a Season to your Instant Watch Queue. Then, when you select the title to watch, it will let you pick a particular episode to watch, and default to the next one in order (but you can go out of order if you want). Our girls love it. We stream to our Wii right now, on a 50" HDTV and the quality is pretty good. even older things like "Rugrats"

Not sure about every TV series they have, but my girls love the Disney Channel stuff (Jonas, Sonny, Wizards, etc). The current seasons are there on all of them, and usually available a few days after it airs on Disney Channel.

And the new Apple TV box that Apple just announced? will stream Netflix. add that to the ability to watch on your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad? Pretty sweet in my opinion. Do the 1 at a time unlimited.

Netflix made a deal with Epix and as of 9/1 there are a lot more titles available via streaming--the Godfather Trilogy, Iron Man, Star Trek, etc.

i LOVE netflix! I'm on the plan where you get 2 movies out at a time. I have all 3 consoles that you can use netflix on (PS3, xbox360, and wii). If you are going to use it on the Wii, I wouldn't recommend it because it's the slowest and has the worst interface. The best interface is on the PS3 despite that you need the streaming disk. The Xbox is convenient because you don't need the disk, but you need an xbox live subscription. The xbox is fastest for me because the internet it uses isn't wifi. I also have it on my iphone, which works pretty well.

Ever since they made the iphone app, there are really good choices for instant viewing. Before, the selection was kind of meh. Now, I rarely use the mailed dvds because there's always something on instant queue that I want to watch, but it is still worth at least getting one out at a time for when you really want to see something. I've heard speed depends on where you live, but for me, I return a movie on Monday, they receive it Tuesday, and I get my next one by Wednesday. Overall, I really like netflix, but not so much for mailing DVDs. It works for me because I can easily stream videos to my TV, but if you can't, then you should probably get the subscription where you can have 3 out at a time, or keep the HBO.

We just got it last month and LOVE it. We got a blue ray player that will stream the stuff to our TV (hope I put that right). We have a wii too but, haven't tried it yet.
I watch a lot of TV shows on it and older movies. If you are only interested in new stuff it may not be worth it vs. redbox.

I only read the OP question, so sorry if I'm a repeat. We have the $9 netflix & only get one dvd at a time. Haven't switched over to the wii yet & we don't own blu ray yet. We've ALMOST cancelled several times b/c about 1 out of every 3 movies we get is so scratched, that it pauses right in the middle of a good part! So annoying!

Also, I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure Blockbuster charges extra for their watch instantly part. Also considering the poor selection Blockbuster stores carry, I can't imagine their online equivalent to be very good either.

Only a very small number of Netflix titles are available for streaming. Blockbuster charges extra for online viewing but that allows them to offer more titles.

I would also be concerned about Blockbuster because they are not doing well financially and may not be around much longer.

Blockbuster doesn't charge a signup fee. You pay month to month. Blockbuster goes out of business tomorrow you might be out the rest of your monthly fee. I wouldn't pay for lifetime service (if it was offered). I probably wouldn't even sign up for an annual service. Unless something has changed only monthly service is offered.

The fact that you can't stream new releases is due to the contracts with the movie distributers and the cable companies, etc. No fault of Netflix. The movie companies don't make the movies available to places like Netflix due to the contracts they have with the companies that offer On Demand services.

I've been a Netflix member since 2001 and love them. I stream movies through my Tivo...great selection of TV shows and the movies are getting better too.

Netflix doesn't charge extra for streaming. More movies would be available if Netflix charged for each movie you watched. Blockbuster and Amazon have more movies available for streaming then does Netflix.

I'm not saying Netflix is wrong, just giving the reason.

Question for those who already have it--if you stream a movie through a Blu-ray player, is it HD quality? We have a 56" TV in our family room and standard def. looks terrible on that TV, if that's how it streams I wouldn't be happy.

We've been tossing around the idea of joining Netflix for awhile, but just haven't done it. Currently we get new releases from Redbox, and $1 a night is hard to beat. However, I'd love having access to some older movies and TV shows.

They have HD but not Blu-Ray quality.

Not entirely true. Yes, if you MUST watch those shows as they air, but if you don't mind waiting until they are on DVD/Blu-ray, you can add the whole season to your queue (Usually bonus discs, too). Yes, you'd get one disc at a time, (or the number your subscription allows), but you can watch them.

You will need to look up the model and see what it says. There probably is a number on a sticker on the bottom or something. I think it is pretty new/rare so it probably doesn't but, it doesn't hurt to check!

That's funny because we have over 300 really nice titles(movies and TV) in our instant queue. Netflix has an AMAZING selection of streaming movies and TV with lots more being added everyday. Don't know what you're looking for, but suprised you seem to think they have such a small selection.

We have had Netflix for several years. We have the cheapest plan (not sure it's offered anymore for new subscribers) of 2 movies per month for $4.99. We do not get the streaming movies. We used to, but I think you have to have an "unlimited" plan to get that now.

We have been very happy with them. We usually get movies quickly and usually get what's at the top of our queue. The most recent movie we got was the first time we did *not* get what was at the top of our queue, so they sent the next highest thing. A day or two later we got an e-mail that said "We did not have your top movie near your location, so we sent your second choice. We are sending your top movie from a different location. Enjoy the extra movie on us." I certainly can't complain about that!

ETA: Before joining Netflix, we were with Blockbuster and had a similar plan (2 movies per month, not an unlimited plan). Blockbuster e-mailed us and said that they were raising our rate by a lot because we were using too much of their service. We we used the 2 movies per month that our plan allowed, but never more. I honestly don't get it... but we called and asked them to reinstate our previous plan, which was still available to new subscribers, and they refused... so we cancelled. It really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Like many other previous responses...we also dropped the premium movies channels from our satellite service and started Netflix about 5 months ago. We use it through the Wii and we bought a used Roku box. My DH loves old movies anyway, so he's thrilled...and there are tons of instant SpongeBob & Dora shows for the kids (we still get our Disney channels on our dish!). It was a win-win for us: far less expensive and shows that everyone is happy with.

ok, one last question, can u stream different movies at the same time - for example can my husband be watching a movie thru the wii in one room and i watch another movie thru the roku in a different room and different movie?

$8.99 a month. One DVD at a time, as many as I can consume. And in between, a whole HOST of streaming options. I can stream to my computer, or watch on the big screen, via my Wii. What's not to like ?

We LOVE Netflix. We had the 4 at a time plan for the summer and used it ALOT. Since school has started we've cut back to 2 at a time.

I especially like to use it for past seasons of new favorite tv shows. For instance, I just started watching Big Bang (because of references here on the dis) and netflixed the past season. My kids have watched all the old A Team and Mash episodes and several other shows that I loved as a kid.

I feel that it has saved us money - we used to be at the store every Tuesday to buy a movie but I can't remember buying a movie since we signed up 1 year ago.

Try it - you'll like it.

Absolutely! We've had DD on Wii (Dora), me on laptop (movie), DS on Roku in our room (SpongeBob), and DH on computer (another movie) simultaneously.

A family that uh...watches tv...uh..together....oh nevermind. (This was a rarity).

We just did this - dropped HBO and HBO on demand and signed onto Netflix.

DH works overnights and now that he can watch movies on his iPhone through the netflix app, he's watched more movies in the past few weeks than we have watched collectively through HBO over the past year.

It was a no brainer for us. Plus even with the basic plan, we are still saving $7 a month.
