Netflix question

I used to have netflix. At that time you could only get the DVDs sent to you.

I just rejoined, since I can get them direct to the TV thru the Wii.

But I have a question. Can you get them thru the Wii, AND directly to computer. Can you get them on more than 1 computer from my account? For instance, can my family of four all get movies to our laptops, or is it just one computer.

You can all get them on multiple devices, but not at the same time. You need to request a DVD to install the software or something (my husband dealt with that part), and you need a different DVD for each type of device (i.e. for the Wii, for the computer, for the XBox, for the PS3, etc).

You do not need a disc for the computer, you just log in to your netflix acct. and watch the movie. Discs are only for Wii, PS3. But you may not be able to stream to all devices at the same time. I know we can only stream to 2 devices (laptop, Wii) and someone can watch the mailed DVD on another TV.

I've got 2 computers (my Mac and her PC), my PS3 and my G/F's Wii (at her house) all running the same episode of the office on Netflix.

We were already watching it on the computers, we turned on the gaming consoles just to see.

On the PS3 you can search and add to you instant queue, but not on the Wii. Only watch on the Wii. I can't wait for Netflix to get it working correctly on iOS 4. Then it'll get exciting!!!

Hmmm...interesting. My husband said we can't do that. :confused3 Maybe he just wants me to watch with him instead of in the other room!

It might be a bandwidth issue for you as opposed to a Netflix issue. If you only have enough bandwidth to stream one movie at a time that is all you would want to do because it will just degrade the picture quality on all of the movie.

We have the wii running netflix in our bedroom for dh to use during his dialysis runs, the boys sometimes watch using the xbox 360 in the living room and I can search on the computer and add titles to our instant que while all the variosu devices are running. Yep, good bandwidth is necessary to have all the devices in use.

You can add to your instant que with the wii, but limited to what is available in the line up of types of movies.. drama, family, science fiction, etc. More options to add to your que while searching online. I find that Netflix does not have a good search feature unless you know the actual title of a movie/ tv series.

For example, if I search for TLC shows it tells me only a few are available, if I search actual titles like Jon and Kate plus 8 or Little People.. it supplies me with many more seasons as available for instant viewing.

I tried to find exercise shows, very difficult to find, had to search through all of the videos and not just instant. There are a few each month that are on instant.

Now if they could have some old cooking shows.. my netflix experience would be all that I want!

I can stream from Netflix to my TiVo, to my Blu-ray player, or directly to my television.

I'm pretty sure, we've had a least two Netflix movies streaming at once in our house.

We have 3 laptops (kids in college), desktop PC, PC hooked directly to a TV, and a PS3 hooked to a TV and have never paid any attention to who was watching when or where and have never had a problem.

However, our broadband cable was newly installed in our home from the street and is their "premier" package - I work at home so I can't have internet interruptions. So yes, I think that bandwidth would be a issue.

There is a limit in my account (2 dvds at a time) of 6 individual devices to stream and we have reached that limit.

Netflix rocks - we love it!

We just signed up again last night, we watched a movie on the laptop hooked up to the main TV. :) I was logged in on the desktop and DBF was logged in on the laptop, I was searching titles and he was choosing something to watch. We have the 2 week free trial and after that we picked the lowest level, the 1 DVD out and streaming option. I also requested the DVD for the Wii but if we can just watch thru the laptop/TV combo we will probably do that. Our laptop is also our Blu Ray player. :)

In our house we are able to watch on multiple devices at once, but we have very high speed internet. If you have dsl or a slower speed internet, you may not be able to support the bandwidth necessary to be streaming on multiple devices. We have netflix on our tivos, bluerays, wii and we each have a laptop. We love the instant streaming.

All good to know.

I don't kno if we all would be watching at the same time. Kinda doubt it, actually. I just wasn't sure if they limit the number of devices that you can stream to. I didn't want to watch something on my desktop, if that meant I couldn't watch something on my laptop later on--Does that make sense?

My Wii disk comes tomorrow. I want to watch Weeds (from the beginning) I know I'm terribly behind the times.:)

According to the netflix site you can watch on up to 6 unique devices. You are allowed to activate and deactivate devices as needed. So, say you have wii now, but you get a new tv with netflix instant streaming down the road- you can either have both active or chose to deactive one of them if it's no longer needed. It's very rare that we all are watching something different, but it does happen and it's nice to know it's an option.
