Netflix: Anyone rent DVD's from here?

Hi everyone!

My question relates to New Releases only, as those are the only types of DVD's we rent.

When you add a new release to your list, do you find yourself waiting a long period of time before it's shipped out? Does Netflix have an unlimited number of new releases so everyone who requests one will get it the week the movie comes out on DVD?

The program sounds great, $21.99 per month, you can have up to 3 DVD's at anytime, and there's no due date. But if you're the person on the waiting list for a movie, then the "no due date" policy doesn't sound great anymore!

Because we only rent new releases, I would prefer to NOT being on a waiting list for them! If the movie comes out on Tuesday, I'd expect the DVD by Friday. (They garuntee 1-3 day shipping.) If I have to wait to see the movie a month later, that totally negates seeing a "new release." ;)

Please tell me your experiences.
Thanks,
Diznee25

You can time your returns right (get them to the warehouse on monday) and you'll get the new releases for that tuesday about 90% of the time. But you also might want to check out the similar plan at Blockbuster, since the real strength of Netflix is their catalog, not having lots of copies of the new releases.

We haven't had a problem getting anything on our netflix list. It's wonderful and SO much more convenient than blockbuster. More than once we have gotten charged with late fees when we dropped our movie in the drop box WELL before it was due, but there is no way to dispute that. With netflix it's not a problem. Another nice feature is if you see a preview for a movie that is coming into the theaters soon, you can still add it to your netflix list so it will be there as soon as it comes available rather than trying to remember when it comes out. I highly recommend them, it's a great operation!

LisaF, I think ErikdaRed was talking about the new Blockbuster deal that is similar to Netflix. You pay $24.99/month and can rent 2 videos at a time and keep them out as long as you want without late fees.

We joined Netflix in 2000. They have continued to improve their service all along...

When we first joined, their distribution center was in California. (We're in Florida.)

Then, I think we saw one in Atlanta and now, we have one right here in Tampa.

So now, we return a movie, say, on a Monday, they get it on Tuesday and ship out the next one in our queue the same day, and we have the movie by Wednesday.

It couldn't possibly be any faster.

We have no complaints, ESPECIALLY since we were grandfathered in to an even better plan - 4 movies out at once at the same price. No way I'm cancelling that!

We were members of Netflix for about three months.

The only real worthwhilde thing about it was that we never had to wait for new releases--as long as they were on our list they were sent as soon as they were released. We just added movies we thought we'd like as soon as they were in the threaters.

I could never figure out why it was taking up to five days for DVD's to arrive at a warehouse that is TWO HOURS away from our home! Then, another two days for a new one to be delivered!

We had to clean every single DVD before watching or they wouldn't play all the way through. Plus we received a number of wrong DVD's (i.e. "We Were Soldiers" in the "What Lies Beneath" cover) and a lot of DVD's that were simply unwatchable due to scratches.

We quit when they increased their prices. The price increase wasn't a lot--only a couple of dollars. But, it was enough to convince us that it wasn't worth it.

All in all it wasn't a good experience for us.

We've been members for a few weeks, and are already Netflix lovers! DH also has to see New Releases immediately, and so far, all have been shipped on that Tuesday. Example: BUtterfly Effect was released on Tuesday, we got it Wednesday. Our distribution center is just in Austin, so we get it the next day.

You can always try it out fora month and see what you think, since there is no contract. Saving us TONS of money already, movie rentals are out of control with their pricing!

We've been members of netflix for about 8 months, and only once in that time have we had to wait for a new release. As someone who paid countless amounts of money over the years in late fees, I loooooooveeeeee Netflix! :) :)

I have had new releases that come out on Tuesday shipped out the day before on Monday. :)

We've been members for about 8 or 9 months now and it is a lifesaver for me. With the baby, I just don't get to go to movie theatres often and I was spending a fortune at Blockbuster.

I usually add movies to my list as they are released in theatres and I think that I might want to see them someday. I have very rarely ever had to wait for a movie at the top of my list, but I've been waiting for Bad Santa for a little over a week now. It is not that big of deal for me because I also really want to see about 10 of the movies under it.

I don't think I've ever had a scratched or unplayable movie.

After you watch Bad Santa, you will wonder what you waited on ;) Just kidding, I found it to be terrible, but others might like it. DH got it from Net Flix too. I made the mistake of sitting in the same room during it =) We also got the unrated version, which I am sure made it 10x worse.

Love Netflix!! We've been members for almost exactly 2 years now. In all that time, we've only gotten 1 movie we couldn't watch (it was broken in 1/2). Sometimes, yes, you do have to wipe off the DVD, but it's no biggie.

We always put new releases in a few weeks before they're supposed to come out (amazon.com & walmart.com are great for finding out what's going to be released soon). We usually get them pretty quickly, like w/in a couple of days.

I should add that your priority seems to get adjusted by the number of titles you take out in the previous billing period. So if you watch a lot of movies you'll find it harder to get limited titles until your next billing period starts.

We have been with Netflix for almost a year and a half and I LOVE it. DH and I am big movie buffs and while we wouldn't trade DS in for the world we really did miss our movies. I was still getting Entertainment Weekly and reading about all of these great movies that I couldn't go see. We tried renting with Blockbuster but with a little one we couldn't always guarantee that we would have time (or be awake) to watch it before we had to turn it in. I hated renting a movie and then either returning it 1/2 watched or not at all or having to pay the late fee. That made renting movies way too expensive.

We have had great luck with Netflix. We have never gotten a wrong movie and only one time did we have a problem with a disc since it had a crack in it. I just put it back in the envelope and they sent me a new one right away. I don't think I have ever had to even wipe on off before. I think we have had to wait a few days for a new release once or twice but it has never been a big issue for us. I also love that I can see a preview on TV or read about it in EW and then add it to my queue and then when it is released on DVD I don't have to worry about it because it just shows up in my mailbox.

Can you tell we love Netflix? ::yes:: ;)

OK, somebody tell me all about this Netflix thing....I've never looked into it at all but it's sounding pretty good. How does it work?

thanks everyone for your thoughts on Netflix! I'm definantly leaning towards trying the free trial. The free trial gives me 2 weeks to see if I'll like the program.

cruisnfamily,

I reccomend visiting netflix.com as they give you detailed information regarding the program. Here's a quick run down:
Basically you pay a monthly fee of $21.99 to rent DVD's. You can have up to 3 DVD's at a time. As you return them, Netflix will send out more DVD's that you've requested. Free shipping, and no due date, which means NO LATE FEES! We are always paying late fees. (As it stands right now, we have late fees at both Blockbuster, and Hollywood Video. So next time we go to rent a couple movies, it's cost us $15!)

how's the selection in terms of anime?

Fairly extensive according to DH. Our town is not large enough for him to rent much so he has enjoyed having Netflix available. You can browse their movie selection without joining so you can check out what they have available.

becka: How does it look in terms of animes like Trigun and Witch Hunter Robin? I already have all the dvd's(and one on the way) for Cowboy Bebop

I have no idea. I can't stand the stuff. :) Go to netflix.com and browse their anime selection and see if you can find what you are looking for.
