Okay so I posted last night, looking for a deal on the netbook. I happened to be out and looked a them. I then realized it doesn't come with a cd/dvd drive or anything. I am getting a computer program for scrapbooking for Christmas and I was hoping to download it to that little thing so it would be portable. But alas, I don't believe you can. Can you get laptops that are small like that. Or does any of the netbooks come with the place for discs? The go said you could buy and external driver or whatever, but whats the point. Then your cost and portablity is out the window. Thanks.

I was loving the netbook for the small factor, it could fit in my purse!

You can purchase external CD/DVD drives to connect to netbooks via USB and it will run you anywhere from $50 for a no-name brand to around $100.

While its true that you can connect an external hard drive to a netbook, realize that the processors in many netbooks are NOT designed with the power/speed to be running programs...they're designed to surf the 'net!

If you plan to install and run programs then a laptop may end up to be a better value, and certainly more portable than carrying both a netbook and an external CD/DVD drive around.

Once your program is loaded on your netbook you shouldn't need to carry around the cd/dvd player. Depending on the netbook, the main reason for having an external cd/dvd player is in case you need to restore the operating system. I found a basic external drive for around $30 and have rarely used it. I convert DVDs to run on thumb drives so I have movies to watch while I'm traveling.
For the price, the ASUS EEE PC for $140 that I posted about on the previous thread would be a good place to start to see if it would work for you.

DH has a netbook I think you'll find it's too slow to run any kind of software. Most are just not built for anything but surfing the net.

Maybe this would work?

It's a 12" laptop as opposed to the 10" netbook.
It's not quite as small but it does have the cd drive and it's designed to run programs.

There are other brands and places to get this size - that might be cheaper. I've also seen an 11" laptop.

You can get very small laptops too. I have a Sony 10" laptop. Mine was pricey, but there are other brands like HP, Dell, etc. that are just as small, but cost a lot less. Just google 10" laptops and you'll see all the brands and prices that come up and you can go from there. :thumbsup2
