Does anyone have a prepaid Net 10 cellphone that they use at Disney or whenever they go to the States. I have one that I used last year for a Disney trip and a Carribean cruise and then I let the minutes etc. expire. I phoned up to re-activate the phone and they said that I need a new SIM Card for the phone and they can not ship it to Canada. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do??? Help...Thanks!!

We had one..had to have it shipped to a U.S address. Now mostly I just add a plan to my own cell from here. My friend bought one as well did it a few times too but said the sim was costing her more than just buying a new phone each time she went so now she buys a new phone each year (she goes for a few months):confused3

I just reactivated my net 10 phone on Monday and here are a few tips! :goodvibes Firstly count on a long process! It took me about 45 minutes as I finally had to ask for a supervisor. After that it went a lot faster! Depending on how long your phone has been inactive determines if you need a new SIM card. My phone has been inactive since June but apparently I was still in the window, so I was able to put a 300 minute ($30) card on the phone and receive a new phone number while I was talking to the Net 10 supervisor. I did not have to have a new SIM card sent to my resort as I have had to do in the past when I reactivated my TracPhone. I believe they are the same company and I have never had to pay for a new SIM card. All you have to purchase is a new air time card, once you install the new SIM card.
As soon as I cross the bridge to the USA, my airtime display pops up on my phone and it resets itself, changing the phone number on my display automatically. When you talk to Net10 remind them you want to set up international calling so you can call back to Canada. Sometimes this feature requires several phone calls before they activate it properly. I find that Net10 and Tracphone are about the same. They works great when in the US and are so much cheaper than adding a new plan to my Canadian Bell phone.

I just purchased a Net10 myself, just to have cell access in the U.S. The phone cost $15, and a prepaid card with 200 minutes cost $20. I intend to 'stock up' on some cards when I am in the U.S., so that I can use the phone on our next trip. Anyone know if there is a way to monitor how many days are left on the phone while I am in Canada so that I know when to add the next prepaid card?

There is an option on the phone that will show you when the time expires.

I just got off the phone again and was told that I had a sixty day window to reactivate the phone. I have a friend in the states so I will get them to send the SIM card to him and then he will ship it to Canada. I was told that the SIM card would be free. Thanks for your help

Glad to be of Help!

BTW, I just received a net10 email today that allowed me to set up free international calls to Canada and Mexico. Apparently you are allowed up to 3 numbers, but I could only get one assigned to my phone ( Ottawa). I could not get the general (Ontario) or (Toronto) numbers. As I live in Kingston, the Ottawa one will work OK! I know when I asked last year about setting up international calls to Australia, they said that if the party had a cell phone number the call would not go through! Unfortunately, DS has a cellphone! I will keep my fingers crossed that this new online feature works better than phoning direct to set up Canadian calls! :thumbsup2

Just give them your e-mail address if you activate on-line. In the weeks leading up to your expiry they will let you know over, and over, and over...
