I read a reference somewhere about a Nestle Cooking school for kids tucked into a large area (Imaginarium??) in Future World in Epcot. Now I cannot relocate the details. Does anyone know of this, and if so, what age children can "cook". The experience I read about was a free 20-30min. cookie baking, a great way to cool off or spend some rainy time.

I know that they used to have that located inside the Land building next to the food court. I'm not sure if it's still there or not.

We did this in 2004. It was in the land pavilion, and very fun. The kids got to wear chef hats and mix up the cookies, then they were "magically" instantly ready. This was free, and everyone got two cookies to take home. Not sure if it is still available.

It is located in the land downstairs by the living with the land boat tour and the food court.

KIDS AND CHARACTERS

Nestle Junior Chef program at The Land pavilion in Epcot. The Junior Chefs (aka any child between about ages 3 and 10) help two grown-up chefs make a delicious and magical batch of chocolate chip cookies. The children also each get a personalized paper chef's hat and at the end, a little container of Nestle chips and two cookies. There is no sign-up or prior registration. Just head downstairs to the Sunshine Season Food and look for the bright yellow bakery storefront to the far left (from the vantage point of the stairs) of the food offerings. We did this and it was a hoot! They took 6 kids, I think. Each one was assigned a job; adding this, measuring that. They all line up in front of a big counter and pass the bowl down to add things and mix. The CMs in charge are very fun and good with kids, at least they were when we were there.

They made a special Mickey Mouse head-shaped cookie for my son, because it was his birthday. I don't know how they managed to sneak it onto the tray!

We also got extra cookies for the grownups, but it was in the off season and not very crowded.

DD has done this twice and really enjoyed it. They do have set times that they start. DD loved the chef hat and cookies to go. They also gave DS (who was too young to bake) cookies also. :)

Do they ask the kids their ages b/c we have 6 children in our group between the ages of 5-11. I know the 11 year old would enjoy this too?

I am so doing this with my kids! They'll be 3 and 9, and with their big age difference, it's hard to find things they can do together. Not things that they'd enjoy, because my ds would love to do some of the things my dd does and vice versa, but activities for which they're both eligible. And I never would have known about it with the DIS. Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing because I'm taking 3 kids and I'd hate one to be left out because she's a little too old even though she'd enjoy it too. I wonder if it's not busy and they wouldn't be taking a spot from a younger child if they would allow it. Anyone have any info??

It probably depends on how many kids there are who want to participate. When we went, there were only three other kids signed up. At first, they weren't going to let my 2yo participate, but when the cast member realized that she was with her brother and sister, he allowed her to join the group. I did stay very close by in case the 2yo became a problem.

they take up to 20 kids at one time because it's all the space they have. I've seen them take kids older than 10 and kids younger than 3. There really isn't age limit but it is really geared for the younger set. Older kids might just get bored. There are 2 CMs who run the show.

What they do is give each kid their own personalized chef's hat, line up the kids on the podium, then proceed to explain what goes into making a Nestle toll house chocolate chip cookie. Each child is given a chance to put in an ingredient or stir the dough. Then each child gets to dump 2 cookie doughs on the sheet. This then goes in the oven and then when it's done, each child will get 2 cookies to take away. They used to give the container of chocolate chips, but they don't do that anymore. The kids just get the cookies and their chef's hat.

They run each hour from 12:30pm-4:30pm. If it's crowded, you may want to get there early and line up. The show lasts 20-30 minutes, so do plan to set aside that time. You'll want to have the camera handy too, because it's really cute.
