Nervous on the phone.

It's a person to person thing with me. I can talk to Eric, my mom, my cousin Mary, and my best friend Mandy on the phone for ages, but anyone else I'm just like, "uhh, I gotta go."

Ugh.
I just HATE talking on the phone.
I can never think of anything to say to my friends, we kinda just say "uh.." the whole time.
But in person i just dont shut up.
Picking up the phone is the worst for me, everyone always thinks its my mom.
So i prefer in person or online.

I hate answering the phone. I hate calling people unless I know them. If I call someone, I'd be afraid of who would pick up.

I really don't like calling people I don't talk to that much...it just gets awkward. I am kind of shy around people I don't know too well either so I think that's part of the problem. I hate calling companies or anybody like that.

If I am really good friends with someone though it doesn't matter, because I can talk to them just like normal. I remember back in like the 7th and 8th grade my friend and I would talk for hours and just hang on the phone all night. We'd listen to each other type on the computer and we'd even talk on the computer while we were on the phone! Crazy.

I have three friends I can really talk to on the phone.

I hate calling people if it's the first time I've called them. And I really hate calling people's home phones and then their parents answer and it's like, "er, hi... can I speak to so&so? Um... please?"
"Yeah, suuure, may I ask who's calling."
"Oh, right... _________."
"Oh, okay. SO&SO!!! PHOOOOOOOOOOOONE!!! IT'S FOR YOUUUUUU!!!"

::yes::
I honestly don't know why I hate talking on the phone. I just do. It causes really awkward moments, which I hate.

I prefer online, text or in person. I especially love text...it's the teenager in me. :)

Yeah, I get the same feeling!

I've been working at the same place for 2 years now, and every time I call, I get nervous!! Idk what it is! I'm a great speaker on the phone too, but I just ruin it when I'm nervous...

and it stinks because half the time, the same person answers the phone.

and they're all my friends by now, so there's nothing I should be worried about.....

I don't get it

I HATE talking on the phone with someone I dont know. I hate calling stores and resturants or places like that. I ALWAYS try to avoid it.

I can't talk to friends on the phone. It always turns into awkward silence. I'd rather IM them.
But oh, I looove answering the phone in an office. xD

I did the phone lines one time at the office. :sad2: Let's just say it didn't turn out well. Especially because I had no idea what most of the people wanted.

What made it worse was that one of the alumni needed my boss to sign papers, but she wasn't there. So he, the alumnus, decided to spend the rest of the morning with me because I was all alone. Every time the phone rang, he'd start laughing at me. :(

But yes, I feel your pain. It would've been much easier for it to go to the message machine. XD

Forgive me for adding my 2 cents. I'm not a teen and I haven't even read past the original post.

But I'm not a phone chatter either. I can email with the best of them, but my phone conversations tend to be short and to the point. I'm not afraid, it's just my style.

Anyway, being nervous about calling for a job is one thing; you would probably be just as nervous in person.

But if speaking on the phone has you really nervous, it's something you'll have to work on. Just about any career will require the use of the phone at some point.

How about if you start by getting into the habit of using your cell phone to leave messages on your home answering machine? No one needs to hear them but those people who love you, and it will be good practice. Graduate from there to leaving messages for your friends when you know they're not home, even if they're sitting at McDonalds next to you. The message you leave isn't the point; it's your comfort level as you get used to using the phone.

i can talk to my friends on the phone for the longest time... although most of the convo is really pointless, i just talk to them like i would in person.. but if im talking to other people (strangers, adults, etc etc), i try to be really conservative and mature.. which usually doesnt lead to very long convos because everything is to the point lol... for your purpose though, just call them up.. tell them who you are.. and ask your question... you dont really have to carry on a convo with them to get your info, so just be straight forward.. theres no harm in that :)
