Hi there. I own at AKV and usually stay there so haven't done a lot of waitlisting in the past. This time, I've encountered some difficulty while in my home resort booking window. For the week of Oct. 31-Nov.7 I was initially not able to get 11/5 and 11/6 in a Jambo 2 BR lockout. I waitlisted each of them separately (learned not to waitlist a whole week the hard way last year). 11/6 came through within a few weeks, but 11/5 still hasn't.

I switched around reservations so much when I made them trying to get the right reservation/waitlist that I don't even know what I did anymore. I would have just taken the night at Kidani for backup, but the 11/5 WL doesn't have a reservation to replace, as I was afraid that I'd lose my place in line and there seems to be no way to edit that. So I didn't make a backup, plus I didn't want to have to move back and forth from Kidani for one night (plus we're bringing first-time guests...).

So now availability has seriously been dwindling, even at Kidani. Will I ever get that 11/5 night? It seems there's a marathon that weekend which probably made it so hard to book more than 7 months out. So do I keep crossing my fingers for the next few months? I don't know how I can move 9 people to another resort for one night, even if there is availability.

Ugh, I screwed up, didn't I :(

You could book the same room you are in with cash. It will be expensive, but it might be worth it with nine people. When/if the waitlist comes through you can cancel the cash room, and if the waitlist does not come through than you will not have to move.

I'm confused. You said 11/6 came through, but now you're still waiting for it?

If I were you, and had enough points available, I'd try to book 11/5 & 11/6 at another resort. Although there might not be a ton of availability left anywhere. But then keep that as a backup in case your 11/5 waitlist doesn't come through. If you have to change resorts it will be inconvenient, but it would be even worse doing it twice on consecutive days. So, if you have to go elsewhere for 11/5, I'd just stay there 11/6 as well. Of course if your waitlist comes through at AKL, then you can cancel the backup reservation.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot guys, good ideas. Whoops, I mean I'm waiting for 11/5, sorry!

I'd have to borrow to add more nights, and then they'll be stuck in that use year and probably wasted :(. From experience, does this sound like a waitlist request that will actually come through? Will stalking help much? Every time I look I see more and more booked up and it stresses me out more.

A 1 night waitlist often comes through.pixiedust:

I do like the idea of booking the night for cash if you can.

I also think the chances of 1 night coming thru is good but also think you should get some sort of a backup whether it be cash or booking at another resort. You mentioned about having to borrow points if you were to book an extra room but that still can work. If your waitlist would fill they could use your borrowed points and free up current points which you could bank if you were still in your banking period. I also have a waitlist for one night around that same time but it's a long ways away so am not too concerned yet but I do have a backup.

I am wait listed for a 2 BR lock off for Nov 6&7. I wanted to wait list them separately but MS told me I couldn't.

Do you have any other waitlists? You can only have two at any given time.

No,I don't. I wanted to list those dates separately to increase my chances of getting one of them.

MS was wrong in that case. You can fill out for the two separate WL yourself online. I think it's probably worth it to cancel the original WL and split it.

Yes, you'll drop down. But my point is your chances (IMO) are better with 2-1night waitlists at the bottom of today's list than staying at your current location with a 2night waitlist.

If you stay with the current waitlist, I'd scan the availability a few times a day myself to try to pick up a night or two.

Ok, I think I just saw a Value room available for the date I need at Jambo. If I were to book that, is there any way I can make my current waitlist replace that reservation if it comes through? I'm terrified of dropping down on the waitlist, but to have that night double booked will make me borrow way more than I can use. If there is no way to change it online, can member services do that?

Maybe someone else can answer that. I just wanted to say that our wait list for 11/7 savanna view studio just came through today. It is still a long way away and people are always changing dates/resorts so I hope you get your wait list soon so you don't have to stress about it too much.

You can call MS to have them add the note that if the waitlist fills it should replace what you have booked. I don't think that will change where you are on the waitlist.

Did you "authorized borrowing points" on your waitlist? If not then I think you should be fine if the value room is listed with the same lead person as the waitlist.

I had a waitlist for May come through for BCV. I also had a studio booked at VGF. MS called me to ask if I was canceling the VGF because the lead person was the same as the waiting list, but I had not specified to cancel an existing reservation. They also said that they could not book the waitlist room under the same lead person so we ended up having to change the lead on the VGF room, then let the BCV room go through. They held the room for 2 days because it took me a day to return their message, then another day for them to get the lead name thing changed.

I had two nights at AKV for a 1BD ST View WL in October and they have both come through for me. The first one took about 3 weeks and the second about 5 weeks. So I bet it will come available for you, but I understand not having it sured up! I was planning on booking a night at cash rate, as others have suggested, because we are already moving once and did not want to move for one night just to come right back. Good Luck!!
