Nervous about Boma...

We just had dinner there Saturday night, and there is plenty food that children will like. Our kids range in age from 8-15, and they all found enough to eat that they were stuffed when we left. We just encouraged everyone to at least taste several things. Some things they liked, some they didn't, and some they probably liked but wouldn't admit to. The seasonings are a little different than what they're used to. I think some spices we associate with sweets are used in the meats, but they loved the experience. The restaurant is not like any other buffet I can think of. We eat there every trip.

Since this is your 1st time in the World, I suggest fitting Boma into your trip mid to latter part. This will give you and your little ones time to take in what WDW has to offer in the way of foods. Branch out a bit on things you are willing to try at other restaurants, and get your kids to do the same. This will help ease you into Boma and its different kinds of foods. Great thing is, if the kids dont like the Boma flavors, kid friendly choices are just a walk away for the table. Take small portions, and go back for seconds of what really hits your taste buds. Boma is a favorite among reservations folks at WDW.

I agree with jmsadams.......it does sound as if you are expecting to see animals while eating at Boma and that's not the case. Boma is on the same level as pool and there are windows on one side of the restaurant that overlook the landscaping around the pool. I would hate to see you and your children expecting animals and then find it's not so. Also, the kids just might be a bit young for some of the foods Boma offers. We've taken our grandson, who's 6, to breakfast there and he enjoyed that, he loves fresh fruit and really went to town on that, but, I don't think I would expect him to enjoy dinner as much. AKL does have the evening African storyteller outside around the firepit (used to be around 7:30 p.m.......I think time varies with season) Why not take them to Mara for dessert and then to hear the storyteller.......some of the CM's who wander around outside of AKL have night vision glasses also and sometimes you can see the animals from the terrace at night thru the glasses.

We stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge a few months ago. We ate dinner twice at BOMA as we enjoyed it very much. I like to try different things so did a lot of experimenting with the native dishes, but they had a ton of your every day foods.

Boma is one of our favorites. Its our ritual to go the first day we arrive. Go there early and tour the hotel and look onto the savannah to look at the animals. You have to make reservations for this restaurant. They very rarely have open tables. My 7 yr old son (he was 5 at the time) loved it. Mashed sweet potatoes and salmond. He absolutely loved it. Went for 2nds and 3rds. Wonder how much he is going to eat this time. Now he can eat us out of house and home. My husband loves the desserts. Especially the chocolate chip cookies and the zebra thingies. Can't wait. Will be there on the 26th at 6pm.

I think your kids will be fine with the dinning at Boma, there are lots of choices. Make sure you schedule time to check on the resort before dinner, they will LOVE it. There always seemed to be activities in the lobby and the outdoor viewing area with fireplace is awesome. Our kids (4 & 6 at the time) went to the Simba Club House while DH & I went to dinner. The kids loved Simba Club house and they got a choice of kids meals (Chicken, PBJ,etc..) to eat in the club. I really liked that the Simba's Club House was just around the corner from Boma's. I was glad I spent the money on Simba's versus a big Boma meal that I know my kids would just eat chicken fingers anyways. We enjoyed a REALLY nice meal and the kids had fun and stayed until Milk & Cookie Time. I think they enjoyed just being with other kids and doing regular stuff after some pretty busy overload days. Just my two cents. If you go to Boma's ask to speak to TJ the chef he is VERY nice, loves to meet the guest and might make you a special dish. This was our most enjoyable meal at WDW. Have Fun.

Boma is terrific!

They have "normal" kid food like macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, and chicken fingers. The only kid item I've tried there though is the macaroni and cheese, which is very good, but boring to me compared to the items that are exclusive to Boma and the Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Some of my favorites are, fufu, which is a sweet potato dish, (I'm pretty sure that's the proper name of it,) crusted prime rib, (excellent, better then Le Cellier's,) the creamy she-crab soup, and the butternut squash soups. The desserts are great as well, I really like the zebra domes, the coconut tiramisu, and the individual chocolate mousses.

Boma is a great place to dine. I would recommend dining at Boma. There are lots of good choices for adults and children.

The food at Boma is pretty tame. There is nothing in the buffet that is so unusual that you have not seen it elsewhere....

I have 2 very picky eaters, 13 and 17. VERY PICKY...I am afraid that if we go to Boma, there will not be anything for them to eat. Can someone give me some ideas of the menu items?

Have no fear. My son is a picky eater and he loved it. We will be there on Sunday at 6pm. Wouldn't cancel it for the world. Enjoy.
