Nervous about Akershus dinner

So I booked DD to go to BBB one afternoon while we are in disney in May. DH thought it would be nice to have princess meal that night too with her dressed up & hair/makeup/nails done like a princess. I called today and booked a late dinner at Akershus (8:20PM) which should be fun w/ a 5 and 2 year old but we will take break before DTD BBB in afternoon so it'll be okay.

I am just nervous about the food. Can't say I have ever had Norwegian food. We did do CRT for breakfast last time we were there. DD would love to go back but we made our reservations too late & they were completely booked. I had Akershus booked for a breakfast but now I will cancel that and just do the dinner - don't really want to eat there twice.

Or should I just book a different "fancy" restaurant that evening instead. Any other recommendations for dinner with her all "princessy".

I wouldn't worry about the food. Most of it has been toned down to suit the tons and tons of families who go for the princesses. Very few items on the menu appear to be Norwegian.

The food there isn't really Norwegian at all any more. They have the meatball dish which is the most ethnic but it's really very normal. Even the app buffet has very little it's mostly regular salad, fruit, pasta salad, and just 1 or 2 fish dishes. That being said the food has just not been that good on our last few visits and 8:20 is LATE to me with little ones even with a rest. What if they are running late??? Breakfast is much better. Would breakfast be a day or 2 after the makeover? My daughter's BBB do lasted 3 days! After we have over done it on a few trips I try and pick what works best in terms of getting decent rest over the perfect dining spot. What about doing an "elegant" dinner at Chefs de France? If you eat dinner with an ADR no later than 5:10 you can often see Remy brought out to you on a silver platter. We frequently see Aurora in France too which might be fun all done up.

chefs de france sounds/looks good, but what about the kids menu - not sure DD would eat off the dinner menu for kids

this is why i have never really planned this far in advance - too much work to get it all planned before we get there :confused3

also - having a hard time believing her do will last that long in May - i would love love love it if it did especially for the price but not quite holding my breath on it.

We didn't care for the food at Akershus when we went for dinner a few years back, so we've booked for breakfast since that trip. But everyone has different tastes. As far as the hairdo, my dd's hair held up for almost 3 days! Just needed some minor touch ups.

The food at Akershus is not that bad. My mom who is one of the pickiest eaters ever has been able to eat there for lunch and dinner. She was able to leave satisfied and full.

If she can find something, I am sure you'll be fine too!

We did 1900 Park Fare after BBB in 2009. It was perfect.

That be being said, this year we are doing BBB then lunch at Akershus. We didn't enjoy the food there in 2005 but we are giving it another try. The menu has changed and I think we will enjoy it this time!

Good luck on your decision!

We did akershus for dinner three years ago and liked everything, then did it again the next year and the food was okay but not great. They changed the menu since then though and the second time they didn't really have much we liked though the princess interaction was wonderful and it was worth it just for that. Plus you get the 5x7 picture with Belle that comes with your dinner :)

everyone at my place likes Akershus, it's must every trip. The food is good and the princess experience is really nice/

looked at 1900 PF and completely booked of course already - I really thought DH would have thought it was crazy to pay $50 for DD to get hair, makeup done at BBB otherwise I would have booked it all right away. The other night he asked if I booked it & aren't we doing a dinner that day too?

Sometimes things open up, it doesnt hurt to make your Akershus reservation and keep checking 1900, and if 1900 opens up then you cancel Akershus.

I do like that Akershus comes with a free photo package of your princess with a big princess (sounds like it's Belle).

I'm sure she will feel great about the whole day, no matter where you dine!
