Nervous about 50s Prime Time antics

Don't sweat it. Just tell the person who seats you that you would prefer not to be part of the show. They will tell your server. Enjoy the food, and enjoy them teasing your fellow diners.

Seriously, go and have fun. No reason to fret at all.

Thats a good idea- I usually avoid dining & shows with a lot of audience participation like that as I spend the entire time sinking ever lower in my chair hoping I'm not the next one to be the center of attention. :scared:

And there were times we were really into it and it was great fun! One other time the server really picked up on the fact we were kind of tired and beat so they served us like any other place would, not over the top antics.

I wouldn't cancel, just do what the OP said. When you check in just let them know you aren't into the antics.
:goodvibes

Thanks for all of the great replies! I have to decide fast what I am going to do though because less than 90 days til our trip!1:yay: :yay: Anyway, if I do change, I am thinking about doing the Hollywood and Vine Play and Dine.! Thanks!

I'd say skip it, there are plenty of other restaurants to try through out your stay, why make ressies for something that is stressing you out. Relax, enjoy, find another place to dine.

Great choice for the children. We ate there twice and there is so much character interaction. Dancing and singing and marching around the room. DD4 and DS7 had a great time, even the two older ones (12 and 10) didn't mind getting up and marching with their brother and sister. They were doing it for the little ones. We ate breakfast.

We've been there several times. In fact, it has become one of our favorite restaurants. Last year, DH (who absolutely does not like being the center of attention) got in "trouble" and was made to stand in the corner. He hesitated to get up at first, but then he did and the kids thought that was the best! Most of the time, the servers only do little things like warn you to get your elbows off the table or eat your veggies. In our experiences, they have never "bothered" us while we were actually eating. Usually the antics occur before the meal or at the end. At least try it - the food is great and it really is a lot of fun!

I say if you don t like the theme of a place why bother going there to eat.Seem s like it would be kinda like going to a luau and you hate hula dancers.

50's Primetime is one of my favorites at WDW and is a must dine for me on every trip (actually dined there twice on my last trip). I don't care for antics much and I had 2 great servers. The first time, I was there solo and had a book with me. The server was very nice and I received excellent service, but he could tell that neither I, nor the table next to me wanted antics, so it was a pleasant meal. The second time was with my sister and again, excellent, non-antic, meal.

Keep the ADR and just mention to your server that you're looking for a non-antic meal and I'm sure you'll be just fine.

Do whatever you are comfortable with, of course. Our experience has been that they look to you for cues as to whether you want to goof around or just enjoy your meal in peace. To be safe, I'd mention it to your server and I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

Luck the first time I went there, we have a great waitress. We wanted in on the antics and even though she did real well it wasn't much of a bother.

I kind of agree with you...50s is known for this. Its not like the food is gourmet or anything. I go there for the environment and of course the picking. If I had reservations about going to a place like that then I wouldn't.

I think I am going to for sure change it! I should not let a little worry like this bother me on vacation. So now I just have to choose between Hollywood and Vine, which my dd9 does not want to do and my dd5 does want, or the Brown Derby (i figured oop for this one):confused3 ! We could just not do a ts at MGM and eat at a resort near by. Any suggestions?

Why even consider it if it is making you nervous? Just write it off and chose another restaurant.

If you are not on a tight touring schedule, and don't mind taking a break from the park, you could walk or take a short boat ride to the Boardwalk. ESPN or Cape May might be good options.

We have avoided Whispering Canyon for the same reason. Maybe I'm "humor impaired", but just don't care to have waiters joking around while we are trying to have a meal. In either case, the food at both the Prime Time and Sci Fi generally get mixed reviews.

I agree with DaisyD, just scratch it off of your list, and don't worry about it.

Have a magical pixiedust: trip!

I enjoy both Hollywood and Vine and the Brown Derby, but I think that of those two, Hollywood and Vine would be more fun for kids. The Brown Derby is a really adult atmosphere - probably not very interesting for most kids. If you didn't have kids, I'd say either of these two restaurants is equally good, but since you do, I'd recommend Hollywood and Vine.

And I agree that there is no point in going to a luau if you dislike hula dancers, and no point in going to an antic-filled restaurant if you dislike antics. There are so many great restaurants to choose from that it's easy to find appealing alternatives. This should be fun, not stressful. Have a great time!

To those who 'want' to change their mind & not reserve seats there, think about it. If you like sitting back & watching others get stood in a corner , etc & 'picked' on,, then GO!
please , don't wait til they seat you to tell the server you are not interested in the antics,, just tell then when you check in! they will seat you with a quiet server ( they have several) & you can sit there with ease you will only be asked what you want to order.
for people who like the adventurers club, this is kind of like that, you can watch the goings on,,
I am a big fan of this place, & it makes an otherwise boring lunch , well interesting.
